and me another alan carr fan, i smoked for about 36yrs tried a few times then read the book and its the easiest thing ever i cant really believe it

The worst thing about it is the feeling of being a failure if you don't stop completely.
Don't say that you are giving up smoking, instead decide to not have a cigarette when you feel like one (think 'maybe i'll have one later'). Do this every time you feel like smoking and you have the positive effect of reinforcing your decision every time. Also if you do have a cigarette at any time, then you avoid the feeling of having failed and not being strong enough to quit. It becomes easier to do this when you have no cigarettes left (if necessary think 'maybe i'll buy some later').
It may seem a weird way to go about it but it does work (I know because I did it).

good luck Bof - a year and a few months for me....

It goes in threes, the third day is hard, the third week, and the third month....

But if you really want to do it you can, just you and only you..

Go for it man!

Very good points....

I know I'm still a smoker even though I haven't smoked since Feb 08.....

good luck to you, tried several times to give up, managed for eight months when the wife was pregnant for the first time but slipped back eventually :\ Will probably give it another go when the summer is over. Hope it all works out good for you :)

Nearly 9 years for me.

If you want to become a non-smoker it's easy with the odd painful moment. The key to success being you have to WANT to be a non-smoker.

For the first year or so do what I did...every month I progressed without a single cigarette I spent my ciggie money on presents for myself as my reward.

Good luck.

From smoking 20 Corona Cigars a day I gave up just like that when a doctor told me to either stop smoking or dont book a holiday for next year as you will lose the deposit. That was 14 years ago,yet 2 of my sons say they want to give up and have had tablets patches etc but they lack any form of will power and just go back into the habit and it really upsets me that they cant stop smoking.
