the chance to treble your wages and move to a company that was currently in a far better positioned to progress, would you do it?

I have to say my first priority would be to maximise my revenue for my family but only if there really was a better long term future with the other offer.

I have had this situation personally with a job in London and in Oxford. I felt bad about it but it had to be done.

What people are forgetting is that he was here for months, not years.
If I was at company for 5 years, enjoyed everything about it, and wasn't bored, wasn't that bothered about something new, probably not.
If I was at a new company for a few months, enjoyed it, but was offered 3x my salary, at a similar company, yes, more than likely.

1) there is no evidence of his wage being tripled

2) yes, but I'd expect to take stick from my current employers knowing full well that I'd shat on them

Yes, I'd miss my current company with its great future and top young foreign manager and move over to the new company, even though my new manager is a) a twat, b) overrated and c) insecure in his position at the company.

Even though I had the raging hump about this issue yesterday & I still think he is a twat for doing so I think most of us would jump ship especially for a huge pay rise, only a short career & he has to try maximise his income.
I'd have made clear my preference is to stay & maybe try for a bonuses package based on merit & success but thats part of initial contract talks & his offer was on the table all agreed which is why Gus is so upset cos he was the man who gave Calderon his big break & that deserves loyalty. But if the figures are correct who could really turn that down.

Can we all calm down with this three times the salary nonsense. 15k a week for a third division full back? One who had apparently agreed to 5k a week recently (5k sounds too much anyway).

Are people that stupid to believe what gets posted on here. Transfer rumours generally get people questioning their veracity but everone just seems to have accepted this rumour as fact. Why?

I have no doubt that I would want to listen to what anyone had to offer, it would then be a difficult decision to make and one I would want to take my time over. However my current employers didn't resurrect my career

Will they pay moving expenses? Will my wife and kids be happy with the move? Sure it's more money, but what about friends and family, how often will they b able to visit us, or us visit them?

What do I get out of the company progressing? Will the company pass on their increased profit, or will I have to wait until my contract is up for renewal and this company is now in a position to attract someone better than me? Have I already agreed to re-sign for my current employer? Does this new company have a history of administration as a result of paying too much, and how much confidence do I have that this won't happen to them again while I'm there?

What other benefits are there? Sure they're paying three times as much, but what about pension plans, bonuses, etc? How do I know the guy financing the company won't run off leaving the company unable to fund such a high wage, as opposed to the lesser paying company that is paying wages that it can afford even without it's sugar daddy?

How much does the new boss know me? How does he treat me? Does he instil confidence in me, or do I constantly need to prove myself to him? Can he empathise with me, is my career path anything like his (e.g. a foreign footballer trying to make it in English football).

It would really be about more than just trebling my wages (though the offer would certainly grab my attention)

what if you were set a deadline of a week in which to decide, asked for a week longer and were then told that was not an option - which way would that incline you to lean?

I, like most, would take the cash. Doesn't stop me feeling disappointed with not having a really good player at my club next season though.

We all would. More to the point I would leave Brighton to go to Southampton if I was in his shoes. The career of a footballer is short so you have to maximize your earnings, especially at lower level football where your wages aren't going to last forever. If you play for a Spanish 3rd tier side and were offered more money to go to another Spanish 3rd tier side that looked certain to go to be promoted and had top tier facilities, would you not all move?!

Of course I would. But I wouldn't say yes to my current employer then f*** off.
