the chance to treble your wages and move to a company that was currently in a far better positioned to progress, would you do it?

If my existing company´s boss had plucked me out of unemployment, got me up off my feet, and was offering me a new contract at an exciting company that in just 12 months time will be in a far far FAR better location (new stadium) than the other company that was offering me a contract, I would should a bit of loyalty and payback the faith put in me by the existing employer, as I would feel like a bit of a backstabbing t*sser otherwise.

So yes, even in this tired analogy Inigo still looks like a pr*ck.

YEs i would move. If i'm not affiliated with the club as a fan. SO i woudln't do this to the albion because its my team. but any other. maybe i would.

Thing is, Inigo isn't exactly young. 28, he's in his prime. Brighton's a club for the future at the moment, and he wants to play football at his prime with a team who is in a far better position to progress forward and spend 2 years or three years playing at the highest level possible before he comes back down.

It's not the same though is it..
It's like say you were an unemployed geezer living on benefits staying in bed watching Jeremy Kyle and swigging Tennants all day. Then you get a call saying you have the chance to resurrect your career at an average sized business that is just making a name for itself, making a decent wage and living in a lovely part of the country.
You work hard for your new company, and become a vital part of their setup and whatnot. Your career has been resurrected because this man has taken a chance on you and put a f***ing lot of faith in you to produce, and you've done exactly as he pleased. Everythings going swimmingly.
Then another average sized business, with a past of financial problems, with an ARSEHOLE for a manager, located in a shithole, offers you a bit more money, and you f*** off, despite telling the manager that put faith in you that you were commited to his company.

If that makes sense.

I worked a job for ten years despite being offered other jobs in that time that could have meant i'd earn 30-40% more in wages.

I didnt go because it was a small company and the companies i'd be going to were larger but very much souless.

I chose to stick by that company because they were the one who first gave me the opportunity of a job when others wouldnt.

And that in my book deserves a return through loyalty.

I understand it. Let's say the figures are accurate, although £5000 a week is a massive wage, £15000 a week is MASSIVELY more.

What I can't understand and won't accept is the greedy bastards who move (in the prem) due to getting a pay rise of say £40,000 a week to £50,000 a week. What more can you buy with that extra £10,000, and half of it is taxed anyway.

its a nice hypothetical question, but does any one actually know if it is remotly true that Calderon has been offered three times his current deal? or is it just rumour and speculation growing into unsubstaniated internet fact?

It depends. You could go somewhere and get triple the money, but then you might end up doing more work, more hours and have more stress.

Everything in life is also not about money. I would rather spend more time with my family than have more money, because when you start taking work home, you start to lose your life.

I don't suppose for a footballer it changes that much. You turn up for training, and play your match on a saturday. He is not required to attend meetings and he is not being pushed day in day out to make more money. All he has to do is what he did at the Albion.
