If Real Madrid were the only club he’d leave for it seems pointless extending his contract as they would just wait for it to run out again. Also there’s the chance he gets injured in that year and misses out on his dream move.

Fact is nobody knows the situation and booing him is classless bullshit. Hardly his fault he’s paid so well either by the way.
My thoughts entirely.

Given the choice, boo, ignore, clap, why not err on the side of not being parsimonious?

I don't want to boo Albion players at the football.
A player subbed on by a manager who has just won the club the league.
I mean, how entitled does one have to be?

I get all the stuff about two years procrastination, and so on, but nobody booed before his departure was announced.
Where were the banners ("Trent, singe or go!").
Or are Liverpool fans better informed and more measured than I realized?

I just think a little stardust has blown of Liverpool, home of working class socialist winning, today.
Fans appeared to be just as one-eyed and petty as every other club's.

Perhaps more facts may emerge to clarify the landscape...

Would we boo him when subbed on to play his final home game for us?

Thought some of the Liverpool support let themselves down today.
My mate Bob was surprised.
Then (aftertiming) not surprised.....
Is this entitlement and classless one-eyed wankerdom,
or perfectly reasonable 'with us or against us' winner mentality?
I feel it is the former.
Poor show. Liverpool now on a par with Chelsea....maybe.
It's a bit weird. It happens all the time. 'It means more' to the Berkshire and Cornwall massive though remember.

Can't stand Scousers amd most Liverpool fans are plastics from outside anyway but I get the ethics of the situation from the fans and agree Trent is Liverpool through and throughz so I'd be disappointed as Liverpool will be able to compete against RM in all trophyaspirations. With us and the Mac situation, I had to accept he had a chance to achieve better things and his family are lifelong Liverpool plastics.

Players have far too much power and earn too much money. I can understand why working class blokes from Anfield booed him to be fair.

Less sympathy with any booing Estate Agents from Kingston.

But player demands is why my son’s mates can’t all afford to watch us at the moment while us well off old codgers can.
Player demands plus twat clubs agreeing to pay said demands. Players will always get what they can, personally I put more blame on the twat clubs.

I take your point though, it ridiculous a d even more ridiculous that the cost gets put onto ticket prices.

Hate Real Madrid, but very much looking forward to TAA scoring a winner against Liverpool next season and rubbing their ungrateful faces in it

Meanwhile, Arne Slot finds himself in a bind. Conor Bradley, warmly serenaded all game, is still not quite robust enough to last 90 minutes. So do you strengthen the team, even if you weaken the vibes in the process? Perhaps it was no surprise that Arsenal’s equaliser came in the weird lacuna that followed Alexander-Arnold’s introduction, with Anfield too gripped in its own palace intrigue to notice that Mikel Merino was unmarked in the area.

And frankly, you have to rate it. The booing of Alexander-Arnold was unbelievably petty, unashamedly small-minded and deeply ungrateful, and these are all intended as compliments. Football fandom should be all these things, should be irrational, should be intensely subjective and wildly disproportionate. Stoke fans still boo Aaron Ramsey for breaking his leg against them 15 years ago. Sunderland and Coventry still hate each other because Jimmy Hill put a score on a scoreboard in 1977. There are no rules to this thing, and can you imagine if there were?

So why would Real waste their time making an offer in January? What if Liverpool called their bluff and took the £20m?
Then Real Madrid would have had a better full back to help them win things for a snip at £20m.

Anyway, in terms of the booing, I generally think booing your own players is pathetic anyway, even more so when he'd done so much at the club. I don't recall them booing Gerrard when he actively courted a move to Chelsea whilst under contract at Liverpool.

Mad. Player signs a contract but then leaves mid contract "they have no loyalty!!!! Stick to your contract!!!!!"

A player sees out their contract in full and then leaves to dare try something else in their career, taking themselves out of a comfort zone. "They have no loyalty!!! You shouldn't have run your contract down!!!!"

Liverpool fans, hang your head in shame. You utter clowns

If you don't like a player running his contract down, then save your booing for Jean Marc Bosman, not the player himself. TAA is going to trouser a thumping signing on fee from Real Madrid ... Oh and get to play for them as well .... Literally any player in world football, with that opportunity would have done the same.

And it isn't the fault of the club. They've obviously not forgotten that the contract is running down, they've obviously put a new deal on the table which he could have signed. They will have obviously offered him something very competitive.

The subtext to this I reckon is that Liverpool fans have got a Sheffield Wednesday complex going. "we're the biggest club in the world" ! When it someone slaps that insular world view in the face with a wet fish, then their fragile ego's which they've foolishly hitched to fortunes of a football club are damaged, and this, to me explains the lash out.

The Liverpool fans chanted Gerrard's name as a sign of what true loyalty is

That's Steven Gerrard. Who handed in a transfer request when he wanted to move to Chelsea mid-contract.

Is this not a similar thing to Ali Mac, except Ali Mac 'done it correctly'.
His contract was running out before he went off and won a bit of silverware with Messi. I think he agreed a contract knowing he would be moving on and TB and Ali put a £35m clause in it. We kept him for a while but he was always going.
