Liverpool fans, hang your head in shame. You utter clowns

If you don't like a player running his contract down, then save your booing for Jean Marc Bosman, not the player himself. TAA is going to trouser a thumping signing on fee from Real Madrid ... Oh and get to play for them as well .... Literally any player in world football, with that opportunity would have done the same.

And it isn't the fault of the club. They've obviously not forgotten that the contract is running down, they've obviously put a new deal on the table which he could have signed. They will have obviously offered him something very competitive.

The subtext to this I reckon is that Liverpool fans have got a Sheffield Wednesday complex going. "we're the biggest club in the world" ! When it someone slaps that insular world view in the face with a wet fish, then their fragile ego's which they've foolishly hitched to fortunes of a football club are damaged, and this, to me explains the lash out.

I think too much is being made of this - we actually don’t know what the Club offered. Unless it had an exit clause of some sort, it wouldn’t have made any difference I don’t think - TAA decided it was time for a next step career move and Slot wasn’t going to stand in his way, once that decision had been made.

The real issue I think going into this more deeply, was that when Julian Wards left and Schmadtke became interim sports director, Liverpool dropped the ball on contract extensions, focussing instead on rebuilding their MF. Klopp then announced he was leaving and all contract extensions were put on hold. When Hughes came in last April, negotiations resumed but by then TAA was already sniffing out Madrid as it didn’t look like Liverpool were making much effort to keep him.

When Madrid came knocking in December, Liverpool said they wanted TAA for the rest of the season and rejected any serious advances. TAA had no involvement with that dialogue because it was before the window opened..

The criticism against him by fans and the media is unfair. He’s just done what many footballers have done before him, made the tough decision to move onto a new challenge and continue to play out the season honouring his contract and the Club.

(As for Bosman, I applaud Clubs not being able to hold players to ransom by demanding unrealistic transfer fees )

In England, clubs couldn't hold players to ransom at the time of Bosman because of the transfer tribunal. When a contract ran out,t he player could sign with anyone and the tribunal would set the fee if the clubs couldn't agree. It worked pretty well, and if only UEFA and Johansson had had a quarter of a brain between them, they could have leaned on Belgium to introduce the same system.

I wonder what fee a transfer tribunal would have set for Alexander Arnold

Looks like a load of bollocks form the liverpool fans to me.

He's not done a Sol Campbell and walked out and joined Liverpool's biggest rivals. He's not refused to play or train - his performances haven't dropped. He hasn't thrown a strop and insulted or disrespected anyone to do with Liverpool or the club in general.

He's just let his contract run down and is moving on to a new challenge in a new country and new league.

He's given them 300 odd games and been an integral part of winning everything it's possible to win with them. On the face of it it's really shitty by the Liverpool fans.

Yes but that was only for transfers between English Clubs and from English Clubs to European Clubs wasn’t it?. If players wanted to move to the English football League, their registered club could hold them to ransom (except France I think or Spain?) which was what I was referring to.
