If we finish lower than 6th this season should Adams be sacked?

Not necessarily advocating it myself, but basic logic would tell you that if a manager is sacked for the CRIME of finishing 7th, then his replacement must come at least a place higher or he should face the same fate. If not, it makes a total nonsense of Wilkins' sacking.

Like I say (and before you all get on my back), not necessarily saying he should be sacked if this happens, but Knight has created something of a problem for himself whereby if we don't make the playoffs people will seriously be questioning his decision-making.

It depends. So far Mickys starting line ups and tactics haven't impressed me but if the team is looking strong come the end of the season then he should stay. If we finish bottom half and are looking clueless then no.

How many more times does it have to be said? Wilkins wasn't sacked for finishing 7th.

It's one of the few public statements Dick has made about this affair.

Micky had to rebuild the team first time around for it to be successful and yet again we wont have instant success - we will have to wait.

It would not nearly have been so successful if we had bought Pinamonte and not discovered Zamora. I think even Hinshelwood would have lasted longer in the job, if he had a fully fit Zamora from the start of the season.

I wouldn't sack him, if we do not finish in the playoffs, but I would give him a dressing down and perhaps re-jig the management team.

Yes he did, but in completely different circumstances. The Albion had just finished 16th (?) in the bottom division after two consecutive finishes of 91st. Anything other than a complete overhaul of the playing staff at the time was unthinkable. Countering that, the club did have an upward momentum at the time, with the return to Brighton and the new board fully enconsed.

This time, we finished one place outside of the play-offs after a poor season and relegation, but one division higher. However, the club (every element, I think) is exhausted by the Falmer thing and there is not a great deal of momentum.

I don't however, accept that Adams needed to rebuild the team - he may have chosen to, and if that is the case, he will have to accept the flak he will get for (perceived) under-achievement this season.

So Dick Knight can tell the fans that Mickey was sacked for other reasons other than footballing matters and some will then shout ,

''The King is dead,
Long live the King''

We finished in 7th place, 7 points adrift of the Playoffs last season.
What if we finish 8th this season, but only 6 points off the Playoffs ? Or 9th, but only 5 points off the Playoffs ? Does that mean Adams has to be sacked ?

I'm confused.

Micky will not be sacked, irrespective of how the club progresses or regresses for the next couple of years.

DK and some board members have far too much invested in him for achieving success, they will dig deep and find funds that otherwise would not be forthcoming.

They will share equally the plusses and minuses and therefore no-one has the inclination to sack anyone.

We do not know if this shared responsibilty and sheer fear of failure by both the manager and the board will deliver success.

If it doesnt then I would suspect that MA will walk in the end and a reshuffling within the clubs board might become more likely.

I think the worst thing is how there has been whispering campaign against a devoted and talented loyal servant to the club, thats unforgivable.

One thing you all seem to forget in all of these daft threads that we get on this subject every week is that Wilkins finished 7th in his 2nd season in charge NOT his 1st.

Last time round Micky took a year or so to settle and then we had a formidable team which won back-to-back titles.

Judge Micky if we finish below 7th NEXT year

The players who progressed through the youth ranks under Wilkins are now being farmed out to non league teams or as in the case of Lynch being sold in January. I expect Micky to have a big clearout next summer with Sullivan , Cox , Robinson , Gatting , Hart , Mayo and others (2nd year pros) being shown the door.

DW was sacked because the board didn't think his persona was a positive thing on the run-in to Falmer and the club wanted someone with pzazz who would get more attention and prestige with the media.
