Socrates was one of the greatest players I have seen in my generation.

The only others that good since I've watched football have been Cruyff, Platini, Maradona and Zidane

The goal Falcao scored against Argentina is my favorite of all time, shimmy of the hips sending three defenders the wrong way and curling it in to the top corner.

A thing of pure beauty.

Every game that Brazil played in 82 world cup was a classic
Brazil 2 Russia 1 ( Socrates was amazing in that game )
Brazil 4 Scotland 1 ( narey scored great goal & a great dinky chip goal by Eder for brazil )
Brazil 3 Argentina ( Socrates & Junior great goals )
And even in defeat Brazil were brilliant against Italy just couldn't defend
Brazil 82 team Shirley has to be the greatest team to never win anything

I read somewhere that the Villa fans were served up alcohol-free lager during this game in Feyenoord deliberately without their knowledge whilst the German fans had normal lager

There was real lager in the stand I was in which was the Villa end.

Good question, this. I'd go for matches that had an impact on how the UK understood the beautiful game.

Real- Frankfurt at Hampden. The crowd reaction to Real's style sounds amazing. Worth reading Hugh McIlvaney on this if you get the chance.

Or

England-Hungary in 52 or 53, when England got completely outplayed and were first exposed to modern tactics. Radio commentary makes it sound as though not playing in trad positions was in effect cheating.

I'll go for the obvious '66 world cup final will most likely be the only time we ever win it

Now what brought you there?

We had met some Villa fans at England away games previously and they invited us out there.

They were good lads but sadly one of them was knifed the following season when they played Juventus at home, but it was the standard leg job so fortunately not fatal.

The strangest thing was we bought a ticket on the day of the game which was unusual as a European Cup Final at the stadium for the Villa end. Also, in the Bayern end was a huge Villa / English contingent made up mostly of squaddies based in Germany and there was a lot of fighting to say the least.
