[Football] If Palace can't play in the Europa League

That seems like a sound argument, although I can't help thinking UEFA may go for the fudge of promoting Forest to the Europa and demoting Palace to the Conference. I really hope that doesn't happen, because Palace could potentially win the damn thing.

Why are they qualified for the Conference League if they are not for the Europa?

If it wasn't Palace, I'd be very confident indeed of a European place coming for us.

But they have their own rules. These were on display in the cup final where their Keeper was allowed to handle outside the box and Haaland bizarrely took himself off penalty taking duty.

I'm still with The Dullard on this. Their main argument (and that of the pro-Palace media) is that their players and fans deserve Europe because they won the cup, a couple of broken admin rules shouldn't matter. I think ultimately and very unfortunately, this argument will win.
Probably wouldn’t win in court though.

I am not so sure on the second point as it is David Blitzer who owns a majority share in Brondby, but only 10% of Crystal Palace.

It’s Harris and Biltzer so although they only have 20% of shares it could be argued their 2 votes give them significant influence at Palace.

If UEFA reject Palaces claim that Textor doesn’t have significant influence at Palace with 45% of shares and 1 vote then they can’t claim the other 2 don’t have significant influence with double his voting power.

That’s if there is even a mechanism to put Palace down to the Conference as the rules only seem to point to any team being banned the place(s) go back into the domestic league of the association the banned club is from.
Harris and Blitzer own 18% of Palace each I think? - thus 36%, and 50.1% of Brondby. (well - they bought 18% each, but some sources say this may only be 'worth' 10% each now)

They can’t be demoted to the Conference because the same rules apply. Textor & Harris have shares in Bronby, a Danish club, who have qualified and finished higher in their league, than 12th.

I was going by the reports that say it’s 10% now. I think their shares have been reduced (either in value or they sold some) when Textor purchased his shares.

You never know with UEFA but as it stands, I’d argue the legal team will probably see far less risk in enforcing the rules and disqualifying Palace.
Exactly. Either hear from every owner's lawyers who have had to make adjustments to follow their rules or just kick out a board who just weren't European-ready as they didn't think they were good enough to win something.

Yes, there is a danger that if they allow Palace to play in the Europa League they open the flood-gates to all sorts of arguments in the future that pretty much any multi-club ownership situation could be deemed to be OK. On the other hand, if they chuck Palace out, they only have to worry about Palace potentially suing them - and given the rules are a little bit subjective around the precise interpretation of "decisive influence" etc, then it could be difficult for Palace to mount a successful challenge.

TV money and competition money is a small part.
It's the global recognition of being in Europe.
Global attraction of players.
The journey.
Shirts sold.
Stories told
Content.
It's Europe! And a decent chance of European silverware!!

Our lawyers will be all over it.
I'd say more importantly, it's a potential route to the Champions League. Win the conference, you're in the Europa League, win that, you're in the champions league!

Imagine how infuriated you would be at the boards incompetence if god forbid you were a Palace fan.

It is enough to make you want to burn your own town down.....
Well they made a pretty good job of the original Crystal Palace back in 1936. You know what they say - “people in glass houses shouldn’t throw firelighters”. :drink:

Also worth pointing out that Palace would likely appeal to the CAS if they are disqualified. The CAS just upheld FIFA disqualifying a team from the club World Cup for breaching multi-club rules. I’d imagine Palace need to act swiftly to limit ties with Textor - or the owner with the Brondby stake. Even that might not be enough given the missed deadline and the threat of Forest or others going to the CAS with a stronger claim.

Yes, listening to that at the moment. Just watched SSN's expert (can't remember his name) explaining the rules - but he's actually passionately supporting Palarse - it would be outrageous if they were denied the place they've earned and deserved, and all that! Watch from about 8.00 onwards -

Some independent expert analysis, that!
Genuine question to somebody who knows more than I do - why is it only Palace who are facing possible expulsion. How come Lyon's place isn't in jeopardy?

It's laughable that he claims Lyon were lucky to qualify just because of a last minute goal conceded by Strassborg. He then claims Palace won and exciting FA cup when in fact their GK should have been sent off and they had only 21% possession!!! Of the two methods of qualification, Palace where by far and away the lucky ones.

He then claims everyone knows Beaky runs Palace yet he only has 25% voting rights, the same as Textor who is the largest shareholder!!
