[Football] If Palace can't play in the Europa League

Every season the "Champions" League drifts further and further away from the original concept of the "European Cup", which clubs qualified for if they were league champions of their country, whichever country that was. None of this coefficient b*llocks. Cup winners had their own tournament, everyone else had to make do with the Inter Cities Fairs Cup, which had nothing whatsoever to do with trains!!
Blimey, I'm old enough to remember the Inter Cities Fairs cup.......was that when Newcastle didn't have to change strip because thet played in black and white ?

It does appear as if the onus will be on Palace to prove they have met the rules and the challenge will be that other clubs have had to take preemptive actions to prevent the same issue.
Sweaty palms time for Palace and their fans.

I asked AI because that’s the only thing to do obvs.

“Estimating conservatively, the implied probability of Palace being excluded might be around 20-30%, based on the uncertainty highlighted in reports and the complexity of UEFA’s decision-making process.”

It’ll still never happen but it’s a fun diversion I guess.

I didnt think this would actually happen, but it is starting to gain traction now. I still think it unlikely but as others have said, the Palace meltdown would (quite rightly) be amazing.

Their win probably surprised them as much as anyone, and by the time they won it was past the deadline to sort this out. Palace fans will be apocalyptic, and then if we are offered their place you will hear the wails from here
It's only gaining traction because the media want clicks. They'll find a solution. UEFA won't have a default position of applying the rules, they'll look for a solution.

This makes it potentially even funnier. Shafted by owners each way round.

A UEFA spokesperson said: "Please be informed that decisions regarding multi-club ownership cases for the 2025/26 season will be announced in due course during June. We do not comment on individual club cases until an official decision has been made."
They really do need to get their finger out and resolve this (and, FWIW, I'm pretty sure they'll find a way for Palace to play). Teams are already making transfer moves and players are deciding their next career moves based on who is, and isn't playing in Europe.

Seems odd that it appears they are basing their case on the fact that Textor only has 25% of voting rights but according to this article, that's the same percentage as the other three, Blitzer, Parish and Harris, albeit Parrish has the casting vote.

Although I’m sure Palace will find a way around the regulations the argument that Textor doesn’t have significant control (because of his voting rights) even though he’s the biggest shareholder will be on shaky ground as far as UEFA are concerned. He still owns more shares than the rules say no matter who has control.

Tony Bloom didn’t have significant control at USG, even though he was majority shareholder. He didn’t even sit on their board he left the running of the club to Alex Muzio. Even then he still reduced his shareholding to make sure he was fully compliant with UEFA rules and we were still hit with a transfer ban between the two clubs for 18 months.

This isn’t going to be the walk in the park Palace think it is. I’m sure they will come to a compromise but when they are eventually let in there will be sanctions similar to the ones we faced and possibly even monetary fines if shareholdings are not reduced by a certain future date. Plus an ultimatum that if they don’t reduce the shareholdings then in the future the lowest ranked side(s) will not be allowed to compete.

UEFA will kick that nonsense straight out.

However, Palace will obviously be given a compromise and special dispensation to arrange for Textor to squat in the corner and dump out his shares into a 'blind trust' for a year or so. UEFA will absolutely bend the deadline for this to make sure Palace play in Europe next season because as my old man would say, 'that's how life works'.

In all seriousness, what’s Palace’s justification for not abiding by the deadline, the deadline we and Forest met?

Google Gemini talking dirty to me

I would estimate the likelihood of Crystal Palace being excluded from the Europa League to be around 50-70%, simply due to the strictness of UEFA's multi-club ownership rules and the need for a specific meeting to address the conflict. This is not a certainty, as Palace believes it has a strong argument, but the risk is substantial.

Because UEFA won't have the balls to kick them out. They'll be given a compromise which they'll surely take.
Perhaps that they have to;

Play in a shithole stadium
Have a bellend with a drum
Goal music
Call and response with the announcer
Other similar MLS shit
Wear a kit where the two main colours clash horribly every single season.

Stuff like that?
