Nope

First time they've done the double over us
And they lost to Everton twice. So what?

How was their record vs the top 5?
Arsenal loss and draw
Liverpool loss and draw
City loss and draw
Chelsea draw draw
Newcastle draw loss.

So in the league vs the best 5 teams in the league they managed to pick up 6 points from 6 draws to go with zero wins and 4 losses.

As comparison vs the top 5 we got
Liverpool win and loss
Arsenal draw and draw
City draw and win
Chelsea loss and win
Newcastle win and draw

So we got 16 points. 4 wins. 4 draws and two losses

But yeah they have been superb in the league. Ffs.

The limiting factor here is Lyon, Textor's other club, might not be allowed into European competition on the basis of their ropey financial situation in which case it's a moot point.

Let me get this right. Palace's majority shareholder owns another club outright and is it's President. Said club is mired down in ropey financial shenanigans which might exclude it from playing in European competitions.

Hummm, something about a perfect match comes to mind....

I must be going mad. They have been resolutely bottom half all season - there is no way on earth that amounts to a "consistently very good" team. It doesn't matter how you dress it up, it's simply not true, especially for an established PL team. Which is very different to saying if I was a Palace fan and my team had just won the Cup and beaten my rivals twice I wouldn't be ecstatic and they deserve to be. And whilst I'm at it everyone banging on about how good Iraola, Frank and Silva have been this season - well we finished ahead of them as well.

.

Most independent viewers see Palace's season as consistently impressive and ours as inconsistent and disappointing.

Deep down we all see that.

Glasner has made them a very good team.

Utter b0llocks.

Deep down I see them as the cheating, diving, whining whingey bunch of t0ssers that they have always been. But thanks for trying to sort out my Palace emotions for me. Complete fail, but 0/10 for effort.

Somehow we are seen as struggling after spending money. That money went on:
o’Riley - assaulted in first match missed half a season
Kadioglu - broke his toe or something in third or fourth match. Out for season.
Wieffer - injured then got fit and had best game against West Ham and got injured again. Ended up a right back due to injury crisis.
Rutter - brilliant signing
Gruda - came injured. Young. Grew into it
Cashin - poor signing so far.

I expect I have missed some.

We also have the narrative of Fabian not being RDZ who was not as amazing as many pretend.

Plus of course the forest debacle.

Not to mention the worst injuries in the league to established players.

I think i will hold on to the bitterness I feel over their cup win for a long time but despite a relatively easy path to the final I think they deserve their European adventure. Had it not been for their shocking start they'd probably be in the European places anyway maybe even champions league.

If they hold the team together and keep the manager then they'll be strong next year, one saving grace is that I think they'll lose some key players and Glasner has become hot property.
I was speaking to a Palace friend after their win . He mentioned rumours that the new stand will take a year longer than planned and the cost will be nearer 250 million, I imagine there's a degree of pressure to raise funds.

Well they've been planning it for 15 years so should be ready for the 2040/41 season then.

This is spot on.

Cashin for me was a squad make weight signing that was home grown. Never making the first XI on merit for me.

I am over Palace winning the Cup. They over performed in their last two games having had a pretty easy route to the semis. A smaller club winning the Cup is a good thing, shame it was them though! I imagine it’s a lifetime football high spot for their fans who have dreamed of this day. Third time lucky for them. It’s hard to begrudge them their moment of glory, even if they are our rivals. I have seen us at Wembley 5 times and we’ve yet to actually win a game there

Straw clutching of world class proportions to think they won’t be allowed to play in Europe due to their useless admin team though.

I now look forward to a season where they bemoan losing star players, hopefully the manager, lack of quality in squad depth, injuries and lots of angst as they struggle in both the PL and the Europa qualifiers 🤞

OK so I am just a LITTLE bitter

People are getting very hung up on the idea that Palace may have had a decent season.

I haven't said they have had a better league result than us, because they haven't.
But they have undeniably had a better season.
They have ended the season on a massive high and an upward trend.

They have developed a style of play over the course of the season, which has delivered them an FA Cup and improved their pts per game from the 15th to 8th best in the second half of the season.

Their fans can see the progress abd have every right to feel confident about the future.
I think most of us are still unsure whether our 8th place is due to us underperforming, overperforming or about right.

Really? The only people I’ve seen describe our season as disappointing are some Brighton fans.

The general consensus on our season is "meh!" I would have said.
I haven't heard any pundit being impressed with our 8th place finish.
Whereas at the beginning of the season there was a lot of interest in the new signings and the tactics of our new manager.

In truth neither have set the league alight and we haven't developed a distinctive style of play.
We've managed 3 good runs of form and 2 terrible runs.
Injuries have been a big factor, for sure.

Same here.

The point I have been trying (and failing to make) is that they took full advantage of their luck.
But that's mainly down to having an impressive manager and a strong first 11, in an ideal place to take full advantage.

It's not that dissimilar to what happened to us in 22/23

It feels churlish to pretend otherwise.

I'm hopeful that the impacts of this season, to their squad and league performance next season, will be even more devastating than what happened to us.

They had the same manager last season though. They finished strongly last year and fell away. Teams go on good runs. You said they have been superb and side better than ours. That is nonsense. By there time they played anyone from top half of the league we had knocked out two of the teams who qualified for champions league before losing on pens to another side who qualified for Europe.

They beat two good teams and one of them was thanks to VAR.

They got lucky. That’s fine. But let’s not pretend that makes them a good side.

Portsmouth and Wigan have also won the fa cup relatively recently. Lucky cup draws happen.

Happy to help.

Brighton and Hove Albion: 8th

McNulty's pre-season prediction: 12th

A solid season with plenty of promise under 32-year-old head coach Fabian Hurzeler, with hopes of Europe maintained until the final day, when they won 4-1 at Tottenham Hotspur, but ultimately missed out.

Brighton's continue to be enterprising and easy on the eye with their intense style, and this campaign was another example of how far this well-run club has come.

I said it's the first time I can remember their starting 11 better than ours, their squad is nowhere near as deep.
It will cost them.

On the basis of last season's performances, I would take Henderson over Verbruggen, Guehi over Webster, Mitchell over Estupinan, Munoz over Veltman, Wharton over Ayari, Eze over Pedro and Mateta over Welbeck.
I have never felt like that when comparing our best 11.

Say what you like, I watched them take us apart twice, this season.
I haven't seen a Palace side do that to us for a long time.

The only team to beat us twice.
If they aren't a good side, I don't know who is

"Solid season" = impressed now?

But Palace's unremarkable team is described as:

Exciting in attack with Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta, solid in defence with Marc Guehi, and with the outstanding Adam Wharton in midfield, Palace have been such a good watch.

Glasner has proved an inspired appointment and if they keep this team together, it is onwards and upwards for the Eagles.

“Solid season” doesn’t equal disappointing or meh, which were your words on how our season is being viewed by neutrals. Happy to be pointed in the direction of pundits/ commentators making such comments.

The quote was “A solid season with plenty of promise” which is slightly more upbeat than just solid.
