Another absolutely nonsense argument. If the bulk of our injuries had been muscular you could try to make something of this - as this is what Hurzeler was warning of, and is a well-known outcome of a high intensity game plan.

But that largely is not the case. Long term absences for O’Riley, Joao Pedro, Kadioglu and Rutter were all impact injuries entirely unconnected with running stats. Sometimes sheer bad luck actually IS an important factor.

thanks for the measured thoughtful response.
much appreciated.

James Milner has also said in his interview on the website now, that his injury started with a small knock to his knee, which his hamstring reacted to in the Arsenal game. He then had to have surgery and a knee reconstruction. From that he got nerve damage and was unable to move his foot until late December.
To come back at all this season is pretty impressive.

So, are Palace ( or Lyon ) going to be chucked out of Europe or not?

Lucky he wasn't dropped on Sunday as he was carried over to us.

I saw my Palace mate today( I look on it as my contribution to care in the community)

Surprisingly, he was very balanced in his views of the Cup win, and their season.

He said that Henderson would have been given a red in any other game, had it happened, City would have pumped them, but, thought maybe VAR/the ref didn’t want to ruin the Final. Admitted they had the easiest run to the final that they could of dreamed of.

Then, he reverted to type, doing the double over us was the highlight of their league season.
I think he's right about Henderson. I don't think our run to the final was actually that easy. We battered a decent Fulham team and an excellent Aston Villa team at Wembley, before beating City.

For all the talk about our "easy" run, City arguably had an easier one - Salford, Leyton Orient, Plymouth, Bournemouth, Forest, Palace (L)

I watched that game.

Aston Villa were far from excellent. In fact, I'm sure their fans would agree that it was perhaps their worst performance of the season. They'd just been pumped by PSG and Citeh and were literally on their knees. Much like our fixtures against a beached Liverpool and a hung over Spurs, you got the Semi-Final to die for. I'm very jealous of that easy draw. In contrast, we'd been beating Chelsea, Newcastle and had got to penalties with Forest.

An unpopular opinion, but I think we'd have won the cup with your draw too and that you'd have exited the competition against Chelsea with ours.

Fulham are good against the good (ie top-half) sides and shithouse against the shithouse (ie bottom-half) sides.

Can you recall which half of the table Crystal Palace generally reside in?

Just because City’s was easy, doesn’t mean yours wasn’t.

Aston Villa were an excellent side this season. The fact that we battered them in the semi-final doesn't change that. I've seen several Brighton fans try to diminish our performance in that match by saying "Villa didn't turn up" or "their worst performance of the season" as if the reason they were so poor had nothing to do with us!

Glasner has never lost to Emery and has won 5 of their 6 previous contests. The reason we won is because our manager and style of play seems to be a perfect counter to theirs. You can argue until you're blue in the face that we 'played them at the right time' but the fact remains that it was our fourth win over Aston Villa in less than 12 months, and we'd put 15 goals past them in that time.

Despite the fact that you didn't beat Villa once this season, you might well have won the cup if you had our run. But you didn't - and we did. :giggle:

Back on topic. I wonder if Palace might find themselves swapping competitions with Forest as a compromise?

Why would Forest do that? Surely if Palace can't play in Europe, their spot does to 7th and the ECL spot goes to 8th so Forest get the EL anyway?

Anyway, it's a moot point, Palace are in no genuine danger of not playing in Europe. Tough as it is, Palace deserve their place in Europe

Though I don’t like it I have to agree with most of that. How many times have our fans complained that when we’ve beaten a much better , on paper , side that we didn’t get the credit we deserved . The other team has always had a bad day, nothing to do with us not letting them play . The same goes for Palace . They have a style, all be it a shithouse style, that certain teams struggle to combat . Not that dissimilar to Forest. There’ll be more and more sides adopting those tactics because when it comes to playing fluent attacking football they’re not actually very good.

Well that is the epitome of a back handed compliment if ever I read one.

I don't think Forest would have a choice, these decisions are up to the governing body and Forest wouldn't be losing out anyway, rather they would get a more lucrative deal. The problem Palace have is the dual ownership which in theory prevents them from entering the same competition as Lyon. I too don't think Palace will or should miss out on Europe and am just guessing at what fudge will be done to get around the current impasse.

That's the problem with getting older. Things are quicker to break and take longer to fix. His injury record isn't going to get any better. For how long can we afford to pay (I assume) top dollar to someobody who was a very good player but whose best days are now well behind him, if he is very unlikely to make any meaningful contribution?

Really? They only won because incompetent officiating failed to identify a blatant handball outside the area by their keeper, denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. A clear and obvious red card. "Deserved"? Nah.
