The easier thing to do would be for the cutoff to be before the first game of the season. That way teams could declare they are eligible for Europe or not so we all know where we stand during the season.

If you’re a team, especially a Premier League team, which come late February still have a realistic route to European qualification (through cup or league) it really is a gross mismanagement to not make the necessary arrangements should they be required, as you just never know what might happen. Is it just greed on the part of owners who refuse to give up things when they don’t have to for a few months?

If UEFA decide they can't play in the Europa League due to their ownership set up, then they can probably drop down to the Conference league instead (with Forest taking their Europa Spot and we still miss out on Europe)

The Director with shares in the Danish Club only has somewhere around 10 to 18% of shares in Palace, so under the 30% cut off meaning it's still a viable option surely ?

EDIT - Just seen that it's 2 palace Directors that have Shares in the Danish club, not just one and so it might be more than the 30% when combined depending on the true figure of percentage of shares owned in Palace

Brondby is 50.1% owned by Global Football Holdings - which is a consortium led by Blitzer.

Josh Harris has something to do with Global Football Holdings (quite what I'm not sure). And owns 18% of Palace.

So - between them, it looks as though they own 36% of Palace and control 50.1% of Brondby.

Is there anything in the rules saying that if palace are deemed to have broken the qualification rules for the Europa League then they have any right to be dropped down to the Conference League anyway ?

Surely FA Cup winners go through to the Europa League. Why do they drop to the Conference if they fail the criteria ? Surely they are just OUT.

Cutting through it all, to me it seems that the authorities considered that Palace do not meet the eligibility criteria so were summonsed to explain themselves. All this waffle like proportionality then makes it sound like there has been a plea for mercy/forgiveness. The delay will be seen as having a really detailed look at it.

Whatever the outcome, Beaky still comes across as well out of his depth.

I usually dislike this time of year on a non World Cup/Euros year I don’t like the heat, no Albion games, crap International fixtures played by knackered players, and no decent transfer news.

Tough call for the authorities too. If they deviate from the rules now by finding special circumstances, they are just setting themselves up for more problems later.

It would be very Brighton to scrape in to Europe due to Palace’s cock up then lose to Bohemians or some such in a playoff .
