This thread has got weird. Are there genuinely people who don't want to be in Europe next season? At the expense of Palace? Because they didn't get their house in order in time? Really?

Come on. I don't think it'll happen. UEFA will fudge it, but it would be bl**dy hilarious if the scenario came to pass that Palace lost their place and we got it. H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S.

Opens a huge can of worms if they're not chucked out. The rules would be completely irrelevant and the likes of Man City and Chelsea would have no barriers to buying outright a team in every league in Europe and creating complete farm systems

Yet another way Palace would have ruined football. Why are they so hell bent on destroying the sport ?

It seems highly unlikely that they'll get chucked out, but I'll chuckle if they do... and find it hilarious if we then replace them!

:D
I don’t think it seems that unlikely at all. At the moment it seems to be up to Palace to prove why they should be allowed in despite not meeting the multi club ownership rules.

UEFA allowing them in when previously other clubs owners like TB, Ineos and City Group have complied and still been hit with sanctions of some kind could lead to legal action against UEFA. Both us and United were unable to sign transfer targets because of UEFAs rulings.

I am still coming down on the side that Palace will get away with it, some agreement will be made for Textor to put his Palace shares in a blind trust or something. However doing so does put the whole future of the multi club ownership rules up in the air somewhat. More clubs will ignore the March 1st deadline and only act when they really have to and we could see more and more feeder clubs for the big boys cropping up without any fear of sanctions should one of those clubs have an exceptional season.

Surely it’s a 4 season and nearly half a billion head start on us, most of which they spent getting back and then keeping Zaha at the club.

They’ve achieved a cup and Europe in 12 seasons.

We got European qualification in 6 seasons and still have 3 more to effectively win a cup quicker than them too.
Don't forget they've been in existence for 164 years too 🙄 - they've had a 40-year start on the Albion

I agree. As the rules stand it does appear Palace are in breach, as the rules are primarily focused on share ownership (I stand to be corrected here though), I'm not sure the shrug of the shoulders, "it's nothing to do with me guv" defence is a particularly robust one especially when Textor has been actively seeking to increase his shareholding in Palace.

If Palace are allowed to compete, there really should be an official clarification of the rules.

The truth of the matter Textor never thought Palace would qualify for Europe and that is why he didn't pay any attention to the rules. This shambolic situation is just hilarious and I believe the threat is real to them.

We’re just as much part of the problem.

Could see Tony having us, USG, Hearts and his future French club in European competition.

He has no voting rights at Hearts or USG

If this does happen this is clearly a stitch up screwing over a unfashionable, provincial small club (Palace) due to some technicality to the benefit of a globally popular big club (Brighton).

Or at least that's how I will frame it for the benefit of my Palace supporting friends.

I think from a legal loophole perspective what sadly saves them is that despite his holding being >30% their argument will be that he only holds 25% of the share capital with voting rights and that technically it is this % in voting rights eligible holdings that dictate the level of control he is able to exert.

This will then become the legal precedent cited by all such future cases of multi club ownership.

I think for some people saying they don't want it to happen is simply a stance to take the edge off the fact that it won't happen.

Were it to happen they would be as intrigued and enchanted as the rest of us.

Hearing is today isn’t it? Think they will be allowed in as I understand that whilst he has 45% ownership he only has 25% vote share and Parish has casting vote so would argue he does not have control as per the UEFA definition. My only string of hope is that Textor who has already watered down his control (given his higher ownership %) refuses any further changes that UEFA may impose that limits his influence or ability to sell the rancid turd he has been trying to shift for a few seasons now
