I fully expect UEFA to find a way to let palace be in the Europa league, but I don't see how you can claim to not be involved in the administration of a club "in any capacity whatsoever" when you are a director there
UEFA have sensibly given themselves a month to sort out a fix for this.

With their influence at UEFA, the Premier League are just too big and powerful to have one of their members excluded.

But as you rightly allude to, the 'solution' to Palace's Europa participation is going to be a fascinating read. Palace have taken a gamble by briefing a lot of the UK media that there is nothing to worry about, but I think that almost helps UEFA with the ruling as most people expect a favourable outcome for Palace.

A modest financial fine for missing the 1st March deadline will surely be the outcome at the end of the month.

And sets a terrible precedence for future conflicts.

Plus what will City, Forest and TB think after they've sold shares to comply?

A Premier League member won’t be excluded - Forest would take Palace’s place, and we would be bumped up to the Conference League.

Also - if I were in Palace’s shoes then I would also be briefing the media with a positive spin - if it goes pear-shaped for Palace they need to have a “hard done by” story for their fans.

For anyone late to this thread and wanting to catch up, you can either read all 100 pages or just pick 10 random pages and read them 10 times.

On a side note, I know there are ignore user and ignore thread options, but can we also have an ignore AI generated shite button?

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Wolves.

I don't know . One minute people think Palace will be in the next out.

It's great entertainment isn't it ?

How long is it since the FA Cup winners got into Europe when their league placing is below the bar ?

They'll put the fine back on the table as the dullard has alluded too.

I suspect we'll see something like this coming out on the 30th June:

The First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB First Chamber) had previously opened proceedings involving:

• Chrystal Palace FC (ENG)
• Olympia Leon (FRA)

due to a potential conflict with the multi-club ownership rule provided for in Article 5 of the UEFA club competitions regulations.

Following the implementation of significant changes by the concerned investors in Chrystal Palace FC, the CFCB First Chamber accepted the admission of Chrystal Palace FC and Olympia Leon FC to the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League. The clubs were able to demonstrate that such changes brought them into compliance with the multi-club ownership rule, considering that:

• No one is simultaneously involved, directly or indirectly, in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition; and

• No one has control or decisive influence over more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition.

More specifically, the significant changes and existing voting rights made to the ownership, governance, and financial support of the concerned clubs, substantially restrict the investors’ influence and decision-making power over more than one club, ensuring compliance with the multi-club ownership rule during the 2025/26 season.

In particular, the concerned investors have demonstrated that their shares in Chrystal Palace FC do not translate into any substantial influence or control of the London club. The trustees will regularly exchange information with the CFCB First Chamber during the 2025/26 season.

As a result, the following applies at the level of Chrystal Palace FC and Olympia Leon for the 2025/26 season:

• the effective control and decision-making of these clubs rest solely under control of the trustee;

• following the dilution of shares in Eagles PLC, the investor is no longer has significant representation on the Chrystal Palace board of directors and has no capacity to directly appoint new directors to the board;

• the investors have no ability to influence sporting related decisions;

• the investors have no ability to influence the club through veto rights or contractual arrangements entered into with other shareholders;

• the investors are restricted in their ability to provide subsequent financing;

• the club’s financial statements will be deconsolidated from the investors’ holding company.

Furthermore, as additional evidence of their independence, the concerned clubs committed to the following:

• the clubs will not transfer players to each other, whether permanently or on loan, directly or indirectly, from July 2025 until September 2026, with the exception of pre-existing transfer agreements that had been entered into before the opening of the CFCB proceedings;

• the clubs will not conclude any kind of cooperation, joint technical or commercial agreements between each other; and

• the clubs will not use any joint scouting or player database.

The CFCB First Chamber have imposed a €50,000 fine on Chrystal Palace for missing the 1st March compliance deadline but have acknowledged these two facts in their judgement;

  • No one could have predicted that Chrystal Palace would enter the Europa League on the 1st March deadline.
  • Everyone in football knows that Steve Parish is in charge of Chyrstal Palace

The CFCB First Chamber will continue to monitor the above-mentioned situations to ensure that the multi-club ownership rule continues to be complied with during the 2025/26 season.

Do we know if the PL have been involved in this saga at all though? They may just be leaving it to Palace to sort their mess of their own making.
And will it matter to the PL if Palace are simply replaced in Europe by another PL team (i.e. us)?

Technically it was only Tony Bloom who sold some of his shares in USG. Forest were put in a blind trust, which has already been ended as Forest and Olympiacos are in different competitions. City did the same thing last season with Girona and that has ended as well.

Although it’s already been reported that the Forest owner has been in contact with UEFA because he stands to gain more if Palace are kicked out. TB is very likely to maintain a dignified silence.

Exactly, there will be the same number of PL teams in Europe whether Palace are one of them or not, that’s where their interest ends I suspect

So Marinakis put them in a blind trust, to suggest that he doesn't own them, and then removed that so he does own them again? How does that work?

A blind trust doesn’t change who owns the club.

The blind trust means a trustee is appointed to run the club. Under the terms of the blind trust the owner has no say or control in how the club is run or how money is spent etc. the trustees run the club as they see fit. The owner is no longer a director and doesn’t sit on the board while the club is in a blind trust.

Anything else would be fraudulent, which is why him running onto the pitch to argue with Nuno a few days after the blind trust became official was a rather silly move.

Because Olympiacos have qualified for the group stage of the Champions League there is no longer a need for the blind trust to be in place so the Forest owner has ended it as is his right.
