If (IF!) this was to go to penalties on Sunday...

I'd GENUINELY be annoyed if we had a sub left with a couple of mins to go and DIDN'T bring Brez on.

Id be horrified .

In this situation the chances are that it would be backs to the wall and balls getting pumped into the box .

I can't think of anyone I'd least like in our goal than Brezovan .

Howler guaranteed to happen in that scenario . Think would give the derby fans a lift to see us doing this . . . Unless we scraped pens

Very unlikely for a howler to happen in that amount of time, and would give us a much, much, much better chance of winning the shootout. Brez is a penalty specialist, Kusz is very poor at penalties. Why would you not want to give us the best chance possible of progressing?

Lingard should take one if he's on the pitch. He can't be tackled while taking a penalty, and he's got tekkers.

This is PIVOTAL.

Bringing on a keeper for a shoot out doesn't happen anywhere near often enough, and Brezovan has a very enviable record with penalties.

Question for those who know the rules, sorry I mean Laws, of the game. Once the whistle has gone for the end of extra time can you still make substitutions prior to a penalty shoot out?

disagree , 2 mins to go , would have to deal with probably 5 or 6 crosses . Fans would instantly be on his back as soon as he came on. Could see him flapping about all over the place.

I believe not.

This was asked somewhere recently (may have even been NSC), and the consensus was that changes cannot be made after the final whistle.

If PIG was still considering staying with us next season (not convinced it isn't already a dead cert he's gone), then subbing Brez in at the last minute, while possibly good for the club, would kill our chance of getting PIG to re-sign!

He'd soon get over it, once Brez had won him the chance to play at Wembley.

Looking at the laws of the game, it seems it's only the Goalkeeper who can be substituted, and only if he is injured.

Kicks from the penalty mark
Procedure
• The referee chooses the goal at which the kicks will be taken
• The referee tosses a coin and the team whose captain wins the toss
decides whether to take the fi rst or the second kick
• The referee keeps a record of the kicks being taken
• Subject to the conditions explained below, both teams take fi ve kicks
• The kicks are taken alternately by the teams
• If, before both teams have taken fi ve kicks, one has scored more goals
than the other could score, even if it were to complete its fi ve kicks, no
more kicks are taken
• If, after both teams have taken fi ve kicks, both have scored the same
number of goals, or have not scored any goals, kicks continue to be taken
in the same order until one team has scored a goal more than the other
from the same number of kicks
• A goalkeeper who is injured while kicks are being taken from the penalty
mark and is unable to continue as goalkeeper may be replaced by a
named substitute provided his team has not used the maximum number
of substitutes permitted under the competition rules
• With the exception of the foregoing case, only players who are on the
fi eld of play at the end of the match, which includes extra time where
appropriate, are eligible to take kicks from the penalty mark
• Each kick is taken by a different player and all eligible players must take a
kick before any player can take a second kick
• An eligible player may change places with the goalkeeper at any time
when kicks from the penalty mark are being taken
• Only the eligible players and match offi cials are permitted to remain on
the fi eld of play when kicks from the penalty mark are being taken
• All players, except the player taking the kick and the two goalkeepers,
must remain within the centre circle
• The goalkeeper who is the team-mate of the kicker must remain on the
fi eld of play, outside the penalty area in which the kicks are being taken,
on the goal line where it meets the penalty area boundary line
• Unless otherwise stated, the relevant Laws of the Game and International
F.A. Board Decisions apply when kicks from the penalty mark are being
taken

• If at the end of the match and before the kicks start to be taken from
the penalty mark, one team has a greater number of players than
its opponents, it must reduce its numbers to equate with that of its
opponents and the team captain must inform the referee of the name
and number of each player excluded. Any player thus excluded may not
participate in kicks from the penalty mark.
• Before the start of kicks from the penalty mark, the referee must ensure
that an equal number of players from each team remains within the
centre circle and they shall take the kicks

and from the advice to officials section:

Kicks from the penalty mark
Procedure
• The kicks from the penalty mark are not part of the match
• The penalty area where the kicks from the penalty marks are taking place
may be changed only if the goal or the playing surface becomes unusable
• Once all eligible players have taken a kick from the penalty mark, the same
sequence does not have to be followed as in the fi rst round of kicks
• Each team is responsible for selecting the players from those on the fi eld of
play at the end of the match and the order in which they will take the kicks
• A player other than the goalkeeper who is injured may not be substituted
during the taking of kicks from the penalty mark

• If the goalkeeper is sent off during the taking of kicks from the penalty
mark, he must be replaced by a player who fi nished the match
• A player, substitute or substituted player may be cautioned or sent off
during the taking of kicks from the penalty mark
• The referee must not abandon the match if a team is reduced to fewer than
seven players during the taking of kicks from the penalty mark
• If a player is injured or sent off during the taking of kicks from the penalty
mark and the team has one player fewer, the referee should not reduce
the number of players taking kicks for the other team. An equal number of
players from each team is required only at the start of the taking of kicks
from the penalty mark

Perfect.

So TK can complete the 120 minutes, and then 'land heavily' trying to save the first penalty, with Brezovan replacing him for the rest.

CMS has scored 3 of 4 penalties. The one he missed was the second penalty from the same match. He scored in the shoot out v wrexham.
Calde scored in the shoot out
Lopez has a 100% record (but Naylor seemed to suggest his absence from the squad v Forest is an indication he is on the outs, along with Rodriguez, he didn't say anything about Agustien)

After that I think we're looking at this season's new players: Andrews, Stephens, Lingard, Ince, Ward I have no idea how confident we should be for any of them.

Over the past three seasons, Ankergren has faced two penalties, saved one (it hit the post and he blocked the follow up shot), conceded one, giving him a 50% record, better than Brezovan's 75% conceded record (and better than Kuszczak's 100% conceded), so I wouldn't discount Ankergren as an option in this hypothetical last minute substitution (though, given Brez has faced more to get his 75% I'd still have more faith in him saving penalties).

Having said that, I have a recollection of some play off final where one team made a goalkeeper substitution late in the game anticipating a shoot out, then a goal was scored making it pointless. I can't remember if it was the winning team, or even what year it happened, but I'm sure it did.

EDIT: 1996 Leicester v Palace. Leicester scored after the substitution to win anyway.

CASPER will be on the bench. other than that, get sexy Pete in goal. If we could get anyone in goal, I'd get in Ben Roberts. That man KNOWS.
