oh, lordy....only got a couple of mins to spare right now, haven't read all this, will just say -

Representative Democracy. Idea is: people stand for election on a manifesto, if you like what they say more than any of the others, you vote for them. Now we all know that there are bloody miniscule differences between the parties and they all basically dance to the same tune (one whistled by the City and Murdoch) but one of the differences was that the Lib Dems signed a pledge refusing to increase tuition fees. Then when they got a sniff of power they did exactly the opposite, leaving those who voted for them feeling completely betrayed. That makes a mockery of politics and devalues it to the point where it becomes even more meaningless. Claus von Clausewitz said that war is the continuation of politics by other means....of course, what we have now isn't war by any stretch of the imagination but it is the continuation of politics by other means. If you devalue the idea of democracy to the extent that the Lib Dems have done what other recourse do those affected have? Over, out, and off to Leicester.

Is that a justification for direct action?

Obviously my own education doesn't benefit you directly, but as a general point the nation does need university educated people to undertake tasks in the national infrastructure that couldn't be done without a university education. Equally, and this is my point, the nation also needs jobs filling that can best be learned with apprenticeships.

But in my case, your point is a fair one - my degree (BA Business Studies) was a total waste of time given what my career is now. In fact it was a shit course. Still, by making people like me pay for my course in its entirety, you'll do the same with doctors, lawyers and engineers - and some of those absolutely DO need university education. We're in danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water, IMO.

Look, I doubt that anybody would deny that we need higher education, well an idiot might. However the vast majority (by that I mean all those except criminals and the handful of true layabouts) benefit society in our own way. Some more than others, Double Glazing sales people and cold callers may be a pain but the fact that they are actually trying to make a living cannot be ignored. However so many people keep going on about the fact that everybody benefits from education, however that's all a matter of a degree. However how many bus drivers, plumbers, street cleaners and so on have been to university ? Does their contribution to society mean less than somebody who has a degree in Computer studies ? It does get a bit tedious to be told time and time again as to how everybody benefits from higher education. The bloke I was working with yesterday went to university and yet we were both doing the same job. Whilst there's no doubt that some areas do require specialist education such as medical or engineering at te same time a lot don't. At the end of the day the person who benefits most from education is and should be the person getting it.

Well, you asked how someone else's education will benefit you. I gave you a very obvious answer, with a personal twist from me.

And you came back with a play-ground response. Brilliant.

I've just finished my sandwich.

You give an ambiguous answer which says nothing as we all contribute to society and you think you deserve a polite response ? Wake up sunshine, all you'll get is the same sort of contempt your responses have shown me, not nice being patronised is it ?

It will help you as it will create more wealth for the country, that is having intelligent people running things. I mean why not stop at universities, what exactly does Primary or Secondary education do to help you? Might as well get people to pay for their own education.

blah blah blah.

Why do you always do this? "Just popped in...", "far too busy to read anything...", 'promised I'd never get involved in political debates", "got to go...I'm off somewhere so I'm going to decree something and then piss off", "It's Murdoch's fault"....

The only one missing was the "I've had my fair share of scraps at gigs with the NF, I can tell you"

Is there a template you use for posting on NSC? Why would the NF turn up at Glastonwick? Too many questions for a Friday. I'm off down the pub.

Someone has just pointed me to some comments you made about Hitler. I'm starting to think you're a bit unbalanced.

Bit of a bugger for Doctors this one. Should they only treat themselves?

Are these 'intelligent people' the same ones who were smashing windows and throw pool balls ? That takes a lot of grey matter doesn't it ? Mind you if they're so clever they should have no trouble securing a good job and a healthy income which should more than cover their student outgoings. Bear in mind that primary and secondary education are mandatory for all, university isn't.

What comments would they be then ? Care to elaborate or are you really quite as intellectually lacking that all you can do is make false accusations ?

Fair enough there were some students who were there just looking for violence, but there were PLENTY of policemen doing exactly the same thing.

The Press Association: Brain op for student hit by truncheon

Yes you are right, all those violent police offices just out there for a fight.

Oh no. That's right. They are paid law enforcement officers there to stop the fight getting out of control. I can't believe that the police get stick for this kind of thing. They can't win, can they? If they use a hands off approach, as they did during the start of the G20 and the previous student march, they get criticised when things get out of control, and if they try to get involved and stop things happening these poor students bleat about the nasty police officers hurting them. FFS.

What is your net contribution to society then?

Well this week I have been working for Westminster Council helping them with their computers so that they can do their jobs more efficiently and thus they can service the needs of their constituents. What have you done exactly ?

I accept there are some very stupid people smashing up windows and things, which is not needed. It doesn't do anything for their cause. It does seem to me as if most of the trouble makers on the march are people who seem too stupid to go to university but want to pop along for some violence. Now, many do get high paid jobs when they leave university but some don't. Maybe there is too many people going to university at the moment, but is raising costs the way to put them off? Surely they should make it more academically difficult to get into university to curb the numbers?

Something has happened here and I don't know what I have somehow replied to my own post.
