I'd start Johnson, Wright-Phillips and Downing against Holland

otherwise what's the point in friendlies?
We know what Owen, Beckham etc can do. Lets have a look at these players who've been doing well in the Premiershite.
Start them and if need be bring more experienced players on.

However we have 2 qualifiers in March and the team has not played as a unit since November, so there is a need to give them a run out together and then chuck a few of the squad players on later.

Johnson is not good enough. 6 months in the prem is not long enough to prove his worth. Marcus Stewart anyone? Kevin Phillips?

The first two, yes, but I can't see that Johnson is worth considering ahead of Owen, Defoe, Rooney or Smith. With people like Vassell and Cole still around in the background, I'm not sure Johnson is worth looking at.

i'm sure you would if he played for man u or chelski

Beattie is a better player than Johnson and has more chance of an international career. If AJ is still doing it in the prem this time next year then maybe. But as he will be playing in the Championship it seems unlikely.

Vassell is still Injured
Cole hasn't scored since about August
Smith is a shitbag
Just leaves Owen, Rooney and Defoe. I reckon Johnson is worth a place in the squad if only to prove that he's shit so he doesn't get picked again.

If he was a player who had never played in the Prem before, and has shown nothing to put him ahead of the "big four", Smith possibly excepted? If he does it long-term, maybe, but even then, who does he replace?
