I am pretty sure i can find work in my line of work, even if i have to go back full time on the tools, However i was just wondering if the worst came to the worst, would i be entitled to any benefits of any kind ? And even if i dont need them when the time lapse arrives after applying should i start just in case? We will own our home,but do not have a massive amount of savings. I have tried looking on cab website and other so called helpfull websites but cant seem to see if i should,could or whatever.
As i say i was wondering what if anything im entitled too ! Not i would ! Just thought it might be handy to know, so i can plan for the future :US:

You know feck all about my current job and whats involved etc. I have a company van and things are complicated and the cost in travling would not make it worth while,amongst other things.
I have worked since i left school at 15 working none stop as a floorlayer including being self employed for about 15 years, moving around the country to suit work, and i have never claimed a penny in my life from the state or any other scheme.The only time i have used the system was when my daughter was born in a hospital.... ! Do you want me to refund your share for that im happy to foward you whatever your contribution was to that.But i somehow think that you may have taken more than me in your time.However i could be wrong because i dont know,like you dont know me. You have pissed me off with your assumptions about someone you nothing about.

Right, I am answering this for a second time as Bill Gates told my PC to shut down and update itself. Possibly a good thing as I will now take a more concilliatory (sp) line.
I think your decision to get out of the 'smoke' is probably the right thing to do, especially concerning your new daughter.
I just question the decision to chuck in your job. Could you not temporarily lodge with a mate or colleague, then jump on the train on Friday to see the family? Not great but still brings in more money. As you seem to be a worker (no dole etc.) I would think this would not last for too long. We could try and argue the cost of running a van up and down the M23 each day but basically, unless you are in a very poorly paid job, this would still pay financially against having no income or benefits. OK the train is bloody expensive but still a better monetary option than having no job. I do not question your desire to do the best by your family but perhaps we all owe something to society rather than it oweing (sp) us, by that maybe we should look to avoid asking others for something when we could provide for ourself.
As for taking less from the state than me? You are mistaken.
I ranted and I raved earlier and perhaps it has needed this time to calm me down. I hope thsat you get a new job ASAP and it all works out for you.
But to all the pisstaking lazy bastards out there.......

come on, you must surely have expected someone to have Wellqucikwoody's opinion. from whatyou say of your work/benefit history, i wonder if you might even hold the same opinions if you read it of another. while moving out of the smoke to provide a better life for your child is laudable, is it wise to do so with out a job to go to and rely on a single income from your wife, who would have to commute (is see looking forward to that?)? its not as if you seem to need to move, raising an infant is much the same anywhere, since you are their main input until nursery. you have a couple of years to plan. the benefits are supposed to be a safty net, not there for people to make lifestyle chioces.

Is correct, you resigned from your job. Unless there's a 'good' reason such as Constructive Dismissal you will get nothing although you might get Housing Benefit and Social Security but as your partner works that's a long shot.

Ok i may have a case for constructive dismissal as basically we put in the offer for the house in Brighton in september which was accepted and for one reason and another the property kept falling through,in the end we had to sell our flat and move out in december as our buyer was going to pull out. So now we are living in London in rented by the week accomodation,with all our stuff in storage inc the damn cat.We were told that the sale would go through for defo at the end of jan with a moving date. So after much thought i told my boss that i was moving to Brighton and could we discuss driving up to brighton etc. I only told him then and not september because he can be funny and a bit of an arsehole. He wrote me a letter which said that i should hand my notice in so he could find a replacemnet in time. I spoke to acas or whoever and they told me to write a letter back explaining untill i had a firm moving date i was not willing to discuss my resignation. Now i dont want to work for a muppet who tries to force my hand. The van is a company van and he does not want the van being driven up from Brighton everyday.For my job i maybe on calls as early as 7am and this would be a major problem getting to Hampstead before say 6am to pick up the van so i can drive to say Loughton. My boss his wife, nephew, and co worker hardly talked to me since i told them i intended to move to Brighton, and i can not be arsed with the agro. So rightly or wrongly i handed my notice in and did in my eyes the big man thing as i saying "oh well f*** you". I am not too worried about getting another job, and may have to be wait for the so called busy season in the flooring industry to kick in (yes there is one
), and maybe i can go back on the tools which im not affraid to do. I was just checking what if any i can claim, anything to help the wife out, if nothing then so be it.I understand why you got angry, & in a way i dont blame you. However you did not know the full facts and maybe thats my fault i just dont like being called a lazy,scrounging c*nt.

I'm guessing it might be better for Mr Freakout to be located in Brighton if he's looking for his type of work down here.
I really cannot add anything regarding the benefits system but I suggest going along to your local office and making an enquiry. They're not there to make a moral judgement on anyone's predicament...they're there to furnish you with information.

Why not make tentative enquiries with flooring specialist companies in the Brighton area , even if they offer you work on a self employed basis its better than nothing. Working away from home and only coming back for the weekend can sometime be more expensive than commuting.

If you claim JSA you wont get anything for 13 weeks if you left your job of your own accord. However if you have capital under £16000 not including your house you can claim Council Tax benefit. Sign on for JSA as soon as possible so that they pay your stamp. Your Child Tax Credit should go up and also your Working Tax Credit because technically your wife is still working. If you get JSA they will only pay you for 6 months based on your contributions over the past 2 years but by the sound of it hopefully you will have a job by then. Good Luck

Forget the "may have a claim for constructive dismissal" and GET THE CLAIM IN it's easy to complete and based on what you say is well worth pursuing. If they try to fob you off at the jobcentre insist on registering. There are loads of online sites to help and advise on tax credit claims - I find Martin Lewis' site excellent but there are loads of others that are very helpful.
If your wife works for a local authority it may be that her maternity leave payments are "protected" under continuity of employment rules in the same way as her pension if she were to move to another local authority even within the 6 months statutory limit. Not sure so check it out - her union can advise.
Good luck with the move. I hope it all works out for you. It takes a good man in my view to put his family first and you're making the right choices for the right reasons.
