Full day 7 till 4 22 miles out

I had a 30 ish conger didn't weigh it. Let most go on the side of the boat.

wonder if your bass rod is the same as mine???
think mine is 11ft 6" off top of my head.
its quite a light rod too, not like the big cumbersome beach-casters you find.

think you'll be very happy with it once you've tried it out

It's a Fox bassmaster 11ft 6" so it could be the same! The cheapest place i've found for Fox sea rods is Gerry's of Morecambe tackle shop, The same rods i've got are selling for more on Ebay.

Every year there is a small run of tope inshore around selsey and bracklesham way. They come in very close eating mackerel, pouts etc.

I caught mine on a whole side of mackerel and wire trace (they will bite straight through 100lb line), about 40 yards out. Tope are probably the biggest fish likely to come within casting distance in Sussex although a few monster stingrays always come up at Climping ..... great fun watching swimmers looking to see what you got on the end of your line and when they see its a stinger they all run out of the water pretty quick. :bigwave:

Had plenty of smoothounds this year, Goring near Worthing was full of them , the biggest i saw was 18lb 9oz but there were a couple bigger caught.

you're not slayer who posts on the WSF forum by any chance are you?

ive always thought the best beach fishing place round here was pevensea, caught a thornback ray off there a couple of summers ago

When is a good time for mackerel off Shoreham arm this weekend - any thoughts ?

I thank you.

Normally over the top of the high tide which is around lunch time this weekend i think, I enjoy mackeral fishing but I prefer to do it with spinners rather than feathers.

I've fished down that way a few times and it's definatly better than the area I live around Lancing. I keep promising myself a long weekend camping over there so I can enjoy plenty of fishing.

Thats a quality fish. My next job is sorting out exactly how much fishing gear i've actually got so the little bulldogs are going up in the loft this weekend to bring it all down. Mrs bulldog thinks i'm an obsessive tackle buyer and I fear she may be somewhere near the truth so we are going to count the rods & reels this weekend. I've still got a couple of new Fox sea rods i'm waiting to try.

Rods and reels catch the fishermen not the fish Bully.

Sunday morning on the 9 0`clock tide will bring in a few. Problem is this week the tides are very low so that will affect things.

Float fish with strip though thats the way forward.

I was down at the Marina for about an hour an a half this lunchtime, and at times the water just a few feet away from the west arm looked as if it was boiling as the mackerel swept through. Caught and kept a few nice ones using squid with a float, and am just about to put them under the grill.

Was hardly anyone else there, but there were a couple of people feathering who were hauling them out four at a time. The water is really clear now for the first time this summer, and with the weather likely to hold for a few days yet, now is definitely the time to go down there and help yourself to a few free dinners.

I've had a couple of double figure carp before but not massive ( 10lb common & 11 1/2lb mirror ) but a decent size bass has allways eluded me, All around me seem to catch them but they just seem to avoid my bait at all costs.

all of ours were caught with artificial lures including red gills over kingmere. during slack water we anchored up and feathered for some mackerel and did a bit of ground fishing.then when it picked up again carried on bassing. have caught a couple of good bass at selseys west beach over the years. my mate has an orkney longliner which we go out on all year round. we have had cod, bream, smoothies, big place, turbot, gurnardwhiting but to name a few over the years and i also do a lot of freshwater fishing.
