I hate the tube

I only get the tube after 9:30 in the morning and before 5 in the evening when I am working up Norf off the City Road, otherwise I take the bus, or shanks's pony.

If I am working at East India Dock, I get the Jubilee line over to Cannin Taaahn and then the DLR back one stop.

The DLR is normally full of Chavs and eastern European immigrants. I was sat next to one particular ethnic person with a full Burka thing on and I know you shouldn't think about such things, but she was very "bulky" and everytime the train bumped a bit, she rustled under her burka thing. It was actually quite alarming. She also whiffed something rotten:nono:

the tube eh? no its not very nice and is supposed to be unreliable. Yet still thousands of people every day get on it in order to complain about haow bad it is. If it was "unreliable" shirley they wouldnt rely on it, and therefore not use it? Personally i avoid it, partly due to geography (living in SE london) but also because by getting the bus you actually get to see and know the place your living/working in. So when the Bus is rammed, you realise its only a 10-15 minute walk to where you want to be.

At the end of the day, the real problem with the tube is not the state of its infrastructure, but the number of people trying to use it. If people where less lazy and walked half a mile then there wouldnt be such a problem would there.

MB, a bike is the only way to go. I arrive at the office every morning feeling exhilarated; on the few occasions that I take the tube, I arrive feeling thoroughly miserable.

Get yourself along to Brick Lane on Sunday morning and grab yourself a cheap bike. You could pick one up for a £100.

But a decent new bike should only set you back £200 - £250. With the tube fares you save, you'll pay for it in about three months.

I'm a Brick Lane regular. I had my most recent bike confiscated by the police as it wasn't strictly mine. :)
That's why i'm having so much trouble with the tube. I always cycle across London, but since i was stopped in the chipshop by the rozzers and the guy whose bike it was (i bought it down the market from a topless chap) i've had to get the damn tube.

Just thought i'd ask on here before heading back down to that pit of snakes this weekend.

By the way, i'm not short. I was pressed against by a very large chap and, it may have been my imagination, but i thought i could feel something in my lower back/upper bum crack.
It's the nightmare decision of whether to then go face to face with the bloke or even shout "Stop pushing your big knob in my back!". There is no easy way out.

as 10cc say, not in hove
i was awoken with a start this morning as the ever more crowded and ever slower 7.19 from hove trundled to london bridge by the sight of a 2 inch caterpillar sitting on my knee....i flicked it off and it landed on the lap of a woman asleep across the aisle. said 'pillar then crept down her leg and was making a run for it when the croydon mob got on.....

Please, such intolerance...try and have a bit sympathy with us larger tube travellers who are just as susceptible to an a sizable if entirely unwanted stiffy on public transport as anyone else.

I always travel with a cold teaspoon, what girl shouldn't - I find it invaluable in exactly those situations !

One thing that really annoys me is people moaning about London transport.

The tube's fine!! A bit pricey but you can be pretty much anywhere you want within 45 minutes. Travel earlier/later to avoid crowding, and if travelling anywhere in central London - WALK!!!

The buses are good too - apart from the bendy ones. £1 flat fare across the capital, a 24 hour service to most areas of London and miles of bus lanes to avoid traffic.

Try travelling to the same extent in any other city in the world (especially in the UK) and it's impossible.

Starting to sound like Ken Livingstone now...

I don't have too much to do with the tube. If I am travelling into the City, I get off at London Bridge or Cannon St. If its the West End then I stay on to Charing Cross. Office is only a 5 minute walk from there to St. James's. People who use the tube come in totally stressed out some days. And you are right, so many journeys could be made on foot. Half the people who commute get off their train, go straight down to the tube, then re-surface when the get to their desitination. If they actually took the time to walk it one day they would realise that the time it takes isn't much more than it takes to make the tube journey.By the time you have got onto the platform, waited for the train, made the journey and got out of the destination station you could have walked.

A bit pricey! That's the understatement of the week. Had to get the tube for a couple of stops (I was in a hurry and couldn't walk). It cost £1.10 - I could get across Paris for half that.

And Paris also has an extensive network. There's nowhere in the arrondisements that's more than 200m from a Metro station.

I agree that London Underground covers a huge area and I think that, considering the under-funding, they do a good job, but they're not an example to hold up to the rest of the world.
