I don't care that Ashley Barnes isn't as flair as the others,

Ashley Barnes has always had the happy knack of being in the right place at the right time.....long may it continue :)

Still Somewhere in Sussex!
I bet Plymouth would love him and Nooney in their team right now, wonder what the odds were on Barnesy being Championship top scorer ? Wish I'd had a quid on that

Currently 22/1 with Stan James or 39's on Betfair :albion2:

All over the place
Well done OP for posting this thread. Absolutely agree. Can't believe some people still mock him. 5 in 8 this season is a superb strike rate, long may it continue, (although I'm desperate to see Hoskins play) !

Was Ashley the 20 goal a season striker all along? Holding up play better than last year and winning us free kicks. Not a great display today, but was in the right place to score the only (and winning) goal. Keep it up AB.

Won a lot of headers in our own box too, picking up the defensive role another striker performed very effectively last season.

Barnes has done everything right so far. Be the post up front in the middle for everyone to kick the ball up, to enable us to retain possession up the field.

On occasion I've seen him looking a bit tentative when getting the back to feet, when he should man up and take the tackle but apart from that he's done everything he's been asked to.

He should be stronger, think less about looking to run onto thru balls and ideally time his runs into the box for crosses better and poach more fire rebounds on long shots

So - is that 29 in 65 appearances?

I was wondering if his record was actually better than Murray's?

His goals per game ratio last season was better than Murray's, yes.

I'm sure Palace are just nursing Murray back in slowly, given his injury track record. They don't want him getting injured before the Amex game...let's hope not eh?

Gary Linekar took stick throughout his career for a lack of pace/technical ability etc but scored goals by the bucketload. Barnes always seems to be in the right place at the right time, is it luck? I think not.

One of my few claims to fame was that I saw Lineker play in a late season "nothing to play for" game against West Ham at White Hart Lane 1991 or thereabouts. Hardly noticed he was on the pitch all game, apart from the hat trick he scored!
