I have a couple of Confederate tattoos which are considered racist in the US, people have lost their jobs for having them in fact.

Racists usually start their racist comments with 'Im not a racist, but...'
Ignorance for a start. You show me a case that has been sentenced in a court where the sentence was aggravated for the racial element.
Don't forget I handle these cases week in and week out. (no I don't work for the police as some seem to think - it is the Crown Prosecution Service)

It can be but, in practise, it generally isn't. Certainly not in the region of 5 years. Most racial assaults and harassment are dealt with in the magistrates courts where the maximum tariff is 6 months.

Believe it or not yes. You'll find no shortage of bigots in places like New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In the Southern States now they're very concious of the past, you can't buy a Confederate flag now.
Most people will want to see and feel some part of other peoples cultures but will nearly always return to their own to live in the main. Thats not racism but just the fact that thats what you have grown up with and thats what you feel comfy with. That of course is in the main.
Most of the Asian populations of this country feel easier within their own communities and I have no problem whatsoever with that but to deny that fact is just plain stupid.
You can say places like New York are multi-racial, cosmopolitan, eclectic or whatever you like but the truth is that the races out there do not mix socially on all fronts. Some do but the majorrity stick to their own.
Of course ecomonics play a large part in people failing to integrate as well.
