dunno I'm lost
Was watching that program on channel four last night, with my missus, about the family of rednecks who sing and promote 'racist marterial'.
About half way through she got up to get me a beer , and said on the way 'I don't know why you have to be racist'.
'I'm no racist' I said, with which she replied whilst returnig with my beer, 'yes you are, you're always referring to the welsh as sheepshaggers, the french as smelly garlic munchers and aussies as our criminal castoffs'.

To cut a long story short, she won the arguement as far as I cuold see because not all racism is about colour is it?

Do you think that the definition of racism has been lost on just the colour of someones skin and not about race and creed?

what a ridiculous question, racism has never been just about skin colour, it is about religion and nationality as well, you only have to look at hitler and jews to realise that!

by calling the welsh "sheepshaggers" does not make you racist, it just means you are a hypocrit :jester:

Read the post.

I was asking if you think the word 'racism' is now just about the colour of someones skin, which I (again read the post) agreed that it was not.

Please explain why I am a hypocrit?

The meaning of the word is to discriminate on grounds of race, which is not necessarily the same as skin colour.

Treating an individual as though they are the stereotype for that nationality.

However, what is considered racist is not consistent. Two of the following are seen as acceptable and one not:

All americans are loud and annoying
All Pakistanis really smell
All french people are obnoxious

So, it appears that it IS more to do with skin colour than simple nationality stereotypes

I would disagree and say all three are as bad as each other. I know what 'society' deems racist.

Agreed. The problem is casual racism. As Wilko says, two would be broadly acceptable, one not. That is because it is accepted in this country to be nasty about French people and Americans because 'it's all a bit of a laugh'. When, of course, in reality, it is every bit as offensive.

And yes, I am a casual rascist as well, as bad as most people. It's not something I'm particularly proud of though.

Some of my best friends are French but...actually, that's not strictly true. I can't bare the obnoxious c*nts.

Substitute all for most and those comments aren't far wrong, that's the thing about stereotypes, they don't just get made up for no reason. I had to stand next to this pakistani looking bloke on the train last week and he stank, he stood right in front of me as well so I didn't have space to read my paper
