I always liked Golliwogs and have never considered them even vaguely racist, but then the world went mad around the time it was decided that Bigs Ears could no longer get into bed with Noddy

I particularly liked the Robinson's Golliwog tail fin on their company jet which I saw a few times.

Prop (PA-31) not jet ... Robinsons food were never that loaded !!

Absolutely, and the sooner the better eh?

Those elderly chaps and ladies who served in the second world war fighting against the tyranny of nazisim............they are the worst aren't they?

This country will be so much better when it is the exclusive domain of liberal free thinkers like you as oppose to the current predicament that we still people alive who contributed to this country's history in a way you could not even dream of...........you are living proof that their generation's sacrifice was worth it.

It's taken me days to realise that we are in agreement. Your novel use of language confused me. Now we stand together! These men, and ladies you mention, opposed the Nazis so that they could use racist language for the rest of their lives. Sorry I missed your point that, because of this, they should have joined the National Socialists not fought them. To go through all that and then have me laugh at them for Gollywogs dying out is not on. Apologies but glad we have ended singing from the same hymn sheet. Keep up the good work.

It feels to me like you are desperate to demonstrate that the intention of your post (that generated my response to you) was to refer to the "dying out" of golliwogs as a cultural norm.........had we had this exchange in 1985 you could have swayed me with that argument but we are nearly in 2014 there is no commercial/media organisation or public figure that would dare sell or promote products with any connection to golliwogs. In short that battle was won years ago...........in fact the underlying story of the thread is a metaphor for our current opposing views as it's is about how even referring to golliwogs in the context of when they were a more significant cultural norm is egregious to our more enlightened contemporary sensibilities.

So, the far more likely alternative is that you were referring to these older generations and how in these more liberally tolerant times their casual racism is "luckily" on the wane as they are dying. That was the context of the posts before your post.

It is a contorted irony that the younger generations hold their older countrymen and women in such contempt for such behaviour, ignoring the narrative of those times, and not least their contribution to this nation's story.

I suspect you are a bright bloke, you know this..........

You cant really blame leftwing morons for being leftwing morons if you let them get away with it.

When I was a student people got so sick of this bollocks that a motion was passed that any complaint had to be in writing, counter signed by ten people and would then be debated by full student council before action is taken. That put a stop to it, the moron in this case decided to pull down a ""sexist" poster from the Rugby Society, was a ****ing landslide passed at an emergency general meeting held withing 12 hours!

Of course those making frivlous allegations could be charged with "racial agitation" or some sort of concocted council rule. Would stop a lot of it and keep these morons from anoying the general population. They may even find something useful to do.

I can get loads of stuff on the internet I can't get in shops in the mainstream high st, which was the point I was making however, as a more general point this shift away from what used to be a cultural norm for political correct thinking is not constrained to golliwogs, for example airfix modelling kits of a German ww2 planes no longer come with a swastika...........the softies are in control everywhere.

I agree again. Today I tried to buy a gollywog of Jessie Owen at the Berlin Olympics waving at Adolph Hitler, who was waving a swastika back. I could not find one anywhere. Maybe my Mum will knit one for us.
p.s. I can send you some decals for your tail fins if you pm me.

If they can't see how this can be a sensitive subject to some of their constituency they should be removed from their council privileges.

Reading that article not one of them has said this isn't a sensitive subject. All they've said is that the training is a waste of money. Having been on "equality" training I tend to agree with them - it's common sense and common decency.

I'll find out how much 'money' this equality training is. If it's internal training by council equality officers it's not going to cost a bustin lot.

Which some of our councillors obviously lack otherwise this wouldn't have happened.

At choir last night, mone of our guys went on a gender awareness course and during the presentation, the leader showed a video, which I am sure millions of people would have seen, where Eric and Ernie are in bed together chatting about a play " what I wrote".

The leader got them to discuss whether this suggested that they were both gay!

Our colleague said " don't be so bloody stupid, it was a different day and age"... As a consequence he was accused of having homophobic views and asked to leave the course!

The class was outraged and all got up and left together. The trainer tried to talk them back in but they were having none of it!

Why don't I ever get to go on courses like that...all I go on is bloody ITIL courses which are as dry as cream crackers.

Think I must go to these classes.....I have several stamps bearing the head of Herr Hitler, some with tanks on and some with aircraft and all have a Swastika on them.....look out...I might be looking for the Fourth Reich to start again....WORLD DOMINATION....Ha Ha ha!

You have to the chance to stop me by sending me to Diversety Awareness course...
What I'm trying to say is if someone is an inherant racist,no amount of 'special training' will change their views.
What changes peoples attitude is age....mellow as you get older.

(PS,The first thing on my list is the annihalation of Crystal Palace FC.
(Again,only joking....)

Why should anyone have to go for equality training. First of all it a waste of money, and secondly it is a load of old bollocks.
