How do you think we'd do if we got to the playoffs?

Quite a way off yet, but assuming we did......

We'd probably have our first match at home. With our away record, there would be big pressure to win that by a couple of goals.

Also a 4 team knockout is effectively cup football, not our stong suit.

On the other hand, playing better opposition usually makes us raise our game a bit.

I think our odds of going up through playoffs would be longer than 4-1, not that I don't think we should have a good crack at it though

Complete lottery at that stage and the odds are no better or worse than 3-1 against. I think we'd quite enjoy being in a final but an early return to division one doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. I hate seasons where finishing fourth from bottom is your big dream.

I put our chances of getting to the playoffs at about 40/60 but if we do get there, I fancy Swindon as I think we'd turn them over.

If we went up with the team we have the moment - we'd get slaughterd.

Think how good we were when we won promotion.

We'd have as good a chance as any of the others should we make the Playoffs!

But the Playoffs won't happen unless we win some away games!

They're good in their own way! Every point earned is a bonus!

We can do Swindon and Luton no worries. QPR in the final would be nice.:) Keep them in this hole!;) Quality.

The away leg wherever would also be fantastic. Barnsley would also be good, but I'm not so confident about doing them!

On paper, you'd be right - but this time we'd be underdogs for every match - and perhaps a "yes" to Falmer would relieve the pressures and make the Albion bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for every fray. Surely MM would have shaped the side into a unit by then, and perhaps we'd go into it with a little more reality than the last time we went up after two Championship seasons on the trot.

I can't say I would prefer to see in the 2nd than the 1st next season, regardless of our unlikely prospects.

2 championships, then starting next season without a manager of note. plus a lot of injuries during 1st 15 games. not surprised we came back down. 2nd division we were much better than stoke and they stayed up.
we could survive if promoted. i would rather take the opportunity.
come on seagulls, lets make it through the playoffs. makes a change instead of just mearly collecting championship medals.

We should beat any of the playoff sides at home. The away leg, would be a cracking day out (prob wednesday evening).
My point of starting the thread though was that i'm worried about our cup pedigree (and playoffs are effectively a mini-cup). We've lost the only 2 finals in our history and could you see Albion winning a game on penalties?
I think we would go straight back down if we did get through the play-offs, but i'd love to see it. I enjoyed last season more than the 2 championship seasons

As a rough guide to how things might pan out (we'd all settle for this), here's Ladbrokes odds on the div 2 title. We're still 5th most likely to win, according to them, so presumably they think we're in the 5th best position to finish well this season.

Despite what I said earlier, I'd be reasonably confident of beating Swindon over 2 legs (don't rate them at all), facing the winner of QPR or Wrexham at the millenium stadium though, i'm not too sure about.

Nationwide League Division Two 2003/4

Bristol City 11/10
Plymouth Argyle 6/4
Queens Park Rangers 10/3
Swindon Town 20/1
Brighton & Hove Albion 100/1
Wrexham 125/1
Barnsley 125/1
Luton Town 150/1
Port Vale 200/1

I'd be more that happy to take Port Vale on!

To even make it to the play-off final would be an amazing achievement and would make the season a big success. The buzz that would happen if we took 20-30K to Cardiff - it would solve any ST problems we would have next season.

I'd love to go up but for all the reasons discussed a million times we would find it very hard and could not probably sustain football in that division for too many years without Falmer or an Abramovich.

Too true - if we got to Division 1 it is really hard.

Don't get me wrong, I loved last season it was a superb battle to the bitter end and we were so close to puling it off.

But the reality was we were lucky to get even close - we never had the resources others did.

Play-offs - if it happens it happens
