Went into me local butchers, pointed up at some steaks hanging on hooks from the ceiling and said: 'Bet you a tenner you can't get me one of those down'. 'Sorry mate' he replied: 'the steaks are too high'

With a rich repertoire such as this to draw upon, I feel you OWE it to your public to go on Hartys phone in Tom.

Rare. Lots of Pepper and plenty of mustard. If there's no blood to mop up with my chips I'm not happy.

Medium. Frankly, I don't trust the quality of meat in a lot of places in Britain enough to eat it rare. It's not that I think I'll get ill or anything, it's just that the best steak I've ever eaten in Britain (at the Bleeding Heart in London) was not as good as loads of steaks I've eaten at cheap places in Spain, IMHO.

I had a 22oz Porterhouse once in the States. I swear it still had a hoof attached hanging off the side of the table, unbelievable. It came with all the trimmings (chips, garnish etc) but I had no room for that, I just ploughed my way through the MEAT.

I was sick on a golf course later. Threw up next to the third tee, felt like a small dog was climbing out of my throat.

I knew this girl at Uni and she would eat the steak completely RAW. Straight out the fridge, disgusting!

Mine however would have to be medium-well done. Cook it enough that there isn't still blood pouring out of it (like my last so called "medium-well done" steak was at Brewers Fayre in Portsmouth).

Tried steak Tartare in Berlin. Very nice but I couldn't have eaten a whole plate, bit rich.

As for whole steak I like rump, medium rare with pepper sauce and mushrooms.

me and my mate had medium rare in paris last year which was a big mistake. after a train ride and a stormy night( we were in a tent) we threw up EVERYWHERE and had the run-a-roos for hours. The other two who had chips were FINE.

Steak tartare rocks. Especially with lashings of tabasco and a raw egg on top.

In Belgium and Holland they call it Filet Americain. It's always amusing seeing the faces of people who order it unknowingly in restaurants thinking they're getting a medium rare or something.
