Probably not a workhouse. This person was the daughter of a very rich family in Hove. I am trying to workout how she live in Hove but had her death registered in Preston (where she is now buried)
Where St Johns or St Peters?(Preston Manor)
Did she die in Preston or was her death registered in Preston? I don't remember finding a hospital or sanitarium in the parish when I studied the area as a historian ( amateur)

A sanatorium in the 19th century would have looked after patients with long term illnesses , given that the family was rich she may have been placed there if she had contracted an illness like TB or smallpox etc and didn't survive.

It was a Sanitorium. There was one in Portslade as well, Foredown Tower. My grandmother is listed there as a child in the 1910 census.
Ooh...where? I imagine this was a cottage hospital or nursing home?
I found this which claims it was in Preston Parish? Borough Sanatorium
Was it? If so, where was it located?
Found what mate?
Yeah. Foredown Tower was a hospital then. So the records say.
