We got kicked out of life as we were told an indie night wasn't working, so we moved next door to thetube, life then nicked one of our djs and did a diluted indie night called juicebox, alternative party jams, and undercut us. Been stitched up big time and Brighton has been left without an indie club on asaturday night and I'm signing on. Good times.

I was at the first Hold Up with Shaun Ryder. Had some jokes nights in there, especially when Howard Marks was in town.

Good luck for the future.

Interesting heading. Initially thought it was a thread to prevent poeple commiting suicide or am I thinking too deeply????

My wife was at this as well, she shook Shaun Ryder's hand and said it was like a cold wet-fish.

Gutted to here Holdup is no more. As said before it seemed to go downhill for me as soon as the Arc turned into Life.

Was always a great night that me and my mates spent many Saturdays going to, always ending up to wankered to pull.

Some great memories one of my favourite being my mate dumping his gf on a night out as she wanted to go to one of the clubs on west street and he wanted to go to holdup, holdup won and he never saw her again.

another great memory, not so great for me, but we just got in had been at the bar downstairs, Banquet by block party came on, cue me and a friend running up the stairs, slipping his foot kicking me in the face causing it to bleed and pouring a whole pint of snakebite over a white Fred Perry. needless to say, made it to the dance floor, then spent the next 10 mins trying to stop a nose bleed.

haha thats what holdup was all about, that first one was hilarious, i met mr ryder at the queens hotel and it was 3days after that documentary about him had been aired by bbc3, it was all about him being clean and drugs were a thing of the past.

" hi shaun, im Iain from holdup"
"alright mate, got a line on yer?"

other highlights were super furry animals djing, sitting on the stairs with bernard sumner going through his acid house record box, drinking til dawn with andy rourke who is a f***ing legend, and telling ian brown to f*** off after he refused to dj after a brighton centre show even though we had a contract. brown is a hero of mine and he was such a deacon i cant believe how let down i felt.

But the all time classic for me was Kevin Rowland, he came down the week before to check the place out and was stood by the till in the entrance, a customer came in and saw a poster advertising mr rowland djing the following week, however he didnt see him stood behind me. Bloke said, f***ing brilliant youve got him on next week, does he still wear birds clothes? I said, ask him yourself. The bloke nearly died :)

Bloody hell. Remember SFA djing too. Seems I spent more time at your night than I thought.

Remember Bez 'djing' at some point, though I'm not sure how much input he really had.....

Bez and his mate was a classic, as they entered the dj box they asked the dj to leave 2 vinyl records, they then put a mix cd in and mimed djing :)

bez came up with a classic quote that night.

"do you want any pills?"
"no thanks bez im working"
"oh right, just have a couple then"
