Very illuminating, I was just browsing through a couple of Hereford messageboards and was surprised to find there is still a very strong feeling against us.

One point of view:
This week a B******* fan posted on our now defunct board a message of good luck for the rest of the season. Has to be said was the first one I have ever seen from a B******* fan and maybe just maybe the wounds are healing if only a little bit.Me like others look round lots of boards and see messages from B****** fans on all of them asking for help or offering help supporters united etc etc and fair play to them but I have never seen the same message from them posted on ours, maybe they know what the reaction would be. Always look out for there scores to make sure they have lost and enjoy a beer more if they have.

A selection of other views:
It is just the arrogance of Brighton and Exeter that gets me wound up.

Sadly Brighton fans were also not very magnaminous in their attitude to HUFC and their fans - surely when you win you can have the right attitude towards what was a vrey sad moment at that time - because HUFC were close to folding the following week in the High Court fighting a winding up petition.

i hate those bastards from the South Coast with a vengance though...bloody Des Lynam and his media cronies.

The crux of the matter for HUFC fans was that the media and to a certain extent the league jumped all over HUFC at the time - Brighton ( according to league rules ) should have not been allowed to start the following season without their own ground because they had missed the deadline - other clubs like Enfield were denied entry to the league on this basis, and look what happened to that poor club - but the league somehow bent over backwards to keep Brighton in the league.

Hate Cardiff with a vengance, Brighton are scum too

I do have a little wonder to their website every now and again to shitstir a little bit. Its great fun and you should try it as a sort of diversion.

This is a bit like Cheaterfraud, they hate us because we beat them to something, in that case the Div 3 title, in this case survuval in the league.

Jealousy is an ugly emotion when fuelled, and they have never returned to the Football League since they left, and we of course have had a season in Div 1.

Good luck to them, they look like they are about to bounce back, and this does seem like one sad deluded individual who frankly doesn't look like he has anything better to do with his time.....

Well I completely understand why they hate us. They fell into relegation contention in Div 3 very late in the season and then lived our worst nightmare. It must be hard to still be playing in the Conference and seeing the team that could have been there instead winning two championships.

We were so full of joy, celebrations and relief that we hardly gave them a thought and now they see us asking everyone to write in and support our ground application. Human nature says they are going to dislike us? After all, the reasons we now hate Reading are pretty insignificant when you consider the outcome of that game in Hereford.

I'll be delighted if Hereford go up. It's not big enough news for it to warrant being the final chapter of those dreadful years for us but it will make a nice little postscript.

I wasn't at the match that day but one of my Hereford-supporting inlaws was. Whenever I head over westwards to see him, he always insists, somewhat masochistically, on putting on a video of the game and it's always me who is saying "No please, don't feel you have to on my account."  :)

That may be true but it does not apply in this case as you are no bigger a club than we are.

I dont hate you but judging by the reaction I had when I tried to introduce a Falmer discussion on our message board I'd say that a good few of our Fans do.............

What did they expect really?

I'll never forget the idiot on the PA berating us afterwards while we celebrating, saying "show some respect for us, don't you realise what's just happened to us". Yeah right. Because, of course, they would have filed quietly out of the ground if they'd won, raising their voice only to request a black armband with "Brighton" on it to wear on the way home.

And all the time a couple of hundred Hereford meatheads were being held back on the halfway line because all they wanted was a punch-up.

I've nothing against Hereford at all - all I was interested in was celebrating Albion staying up. If they don't like that, hard cheese.

I find that all a bit harsh really. I was there and despite celebrating like mental, I still had a twinge of sympathy for Hereford and their fans. I've kept a regular eye out for their results ever since and really do hope they make it back this season.

If the result had gone against us, I don't think I would have hated them - it would simply have increased the focus of hate on Bellotti and Archer.

I must admit that the chant of "going down, going down" is bad enough to hear when you are faced with dropping a professional division, but to hear their fans chanting it with us 1-0 down in that game and on the verge of going out of the league and possibly out of business leaves me with very little sympathy for them and resultantly it didn't leave a bad taste in the mouth when we returned the chant with the scores at 1-1.

Would they seriously prefer that a football club had gone out of business that season, rather than live to fight on and prosper as we now are (relatively)

I would love to see them back in the league, as I was delighted to see Donny come back up

Did their pa guy seriously expect us to quietly drift out after the game following so much heartache and bullshit for 2 or 3 years?

And let's not forget all of their meatheads attacking anything that had a hint of blue and white on it-cars, people, etc. They were bound to be upset but they were f**king brutal in town (ask the guy with the blue BMW that had just about every panel kicked in).

Had they survived thay would have taken the piss big time towards us. We didn't take the piss-we just released all of the tensions of a bastard of a season that none of us want repeated.

At least they were relegated with their ground FFS-can you imagine our survival prospects in the conference playing in Gillingham?

I also would be delighted if Hereford make it back into the league.

However, I hope that the fans on their messageboard aren't representative of their fans in general. They have spectacularly missed the point. Brighton didn't send them down. They went down because they finished bottom after 46 games, not one.

And they kept saying that the FA didn't follow its rules. The FA did make moves to expel the Albion, but the vote was carried to allow us to stay - just.

What gets me is why are they blaming us for being the worst team in the league in 1996/97.

Spot on TLO. They like to blame the media pressure and bias in our favour, but it's entirely down to them that they failed to beat us in the game that counted.

And resenting us for it is just funny- I notice they don't appear to resent Orient, or Rochdale, or Cambridge, Wigan, Fulham, Doncaster Rovers or any of the other 20 odd clubs they evidently lost to that season to finish 92nd in the league.

We even gave them a 2 point head start and they still couldn't overtake us, so while I have every sympathy for clubs who lose their League status, the fact remains that their team's overall crapness cost them their league place, and not ONE GOAL scored by Brighton & Hove Albion.

I bet Barnet don't still hate Torquay for similar reasons.
