Hi there,

I am a Leeds and a group of us will be going down for the game with yourselves. We've accomodation sorted away rfom Brighton centre but was wondering if you could recommend a pub that would be away fan friendly? We've scooped around on the net and not found a lot.

So any suggestions welcome!

Starry.

PS I really hope you get Falmer. I signed a petition for it.

You can drink in the sportsman at the ground as this is welcome to all as are most of the pubs around Withdean. Would not wear colours if you are drinking by Brighton station as there are normally a few idiots about looking for trouble. Hope you enjoy your stay as you will be in for a right culture shock when you get to Withdean :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: It truely is the worst ground in the country :nono: :nono: :nono:

christ I hope we get Falmer soon

Just stay away from the one around the train station and move more in to the centre of the city and you should be fine. Even at the others you will be okay to be honest. Not fair from the station there is a Yates (walkout the station and head towards the sea front.) No a great place but cheap beer and most home fans have local "pubs" they use.

As long as you behave yourselves, most of the usual haunts around the ground - Station (Preston Park), Preston Park Hotel, Brewery Tap - and Brighton Station - Lord Nelson, Evening Star, etc - will probably make you welcome.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sportsman (actually at the ground) refuses entry to away supporters this week, though.

If you come to the Station at Preston Park, say hi!! You can buy me a Harveys (if it's on) or a Courage Best (if that's all they've got). :drink:

I presume you've got tickets for the game? ???

Don't see why not? they have not stopped away supporters in the past and besides most normal colour wearing supporters just want a Bevvie and are not going to advertise the fact they support Leeds if they are coming down for some bovva.

You can always give them a call beofre travelling to the ground if you want to ensure you can get in but IMHO you will have no trouble getting in.

Enjoy the day but I hope we stuff you :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Do yourself a favour and forget "The Sportsman". Typical chain pub that takes ages to be served in at peak times and staff who have a habit of taking the food off just about the time when you start to feel hungry! Handy if you're running late for the game, but if you're staying the weekend you can do better. Around the station area, The Evening Star, Prince Albert, and Battle of Trafalgar are all fine for away fans. The only place I'd avoid is 'The Railway Belle' which has become a meeting place for the Burbury & Stone Island brigade after their previous bar next door was turned into a poncy theme pub.....

As said by others, I would indeed FORGET about The Sportsman. It'll have doormen, and a Wolves mate of mine was turned away the other week...they can be selective, and will probably be on "full alert" on Saturday.

A little off the beaten track about 20 mins walk from the ground is the Long Man (off Carden Avenue). Decent food, Sky Sports, pool table, nice gold lettering outside, and probably less hassle than the town centre pubs. A bit pricey at £3 a pint, but other than that it should suit your needs.

I seem to remember that the Sportsman ran a "No Away Fans" policy for the Cardiff City games a while back. A shame, imo, because I've never seen a hint of trouble in there.

Apart from the time when dave the gaffer was giving it large of course. And anyone would be wary of a Huddersfield lad who thinks he's superior to anyone from Leeds.

I don't think the Sportsman will let away fans in for this one

Contrary to some of the above comments, when we played QPR at home the other week, we got there at 1.30 pm and got in ok but they were looking at everyone's tickets because some trouble had gone off with QPR fans before we got there. A couple of years back when we played Portsmouth, they only let Brighton fans in and, regrettably given Leeds' reputation in the past, I think they may be selective this time with Leeds. If you do get in, the bouncer types that patrol around are menacing types especially the bleached blond woman who seems to be in charge - no idea where they dragged her up from. Not for me - but Les Battersby would probably be up for it ! LOL

The Sportsman's deeply shit anyway - unless you actually like spending two thirds of your time in the pub waiting to get served. Wouldn't recommend it to any home fans, let alone away fans. Sooner they demolish the fucker the better.

Yes I have, I am both a home season ticket and away season ticket holder at Elland Road, they issues 755 tickets to the people with the most loyaltiy points and luckily I feel in the group with enough points. We're bringing our smallest set of fans to an away game in a very very long time, ah well. I am looking forward to it.

Oh and should I see you I'll buy you a drink :p

You'd be surprised what pubs do when 'Leeds come to town' all on police advice, because apparently things can't have changed and we aren't all still the same morons who went around ripping up towns! Pubs close, and we get herded around like cattle.
