I assume we have. 14 points adrift with around 20 games to play would seem to be too much even if we have the best team in the league.

So what is Gus planning for the rest of the season? Sign players to keep us up and start rebuilding then go for more in the closed season? Do we get safe (assuming we can, even with new players) and then tinker to see who can cut the mustard? Or something else?

If we can't get to the play-offs, what's the best use of the rest of the season for Gus?

Play offs? Sadly not this year, even if we do have a particularly good run from here on in.

I think Gus will build a team in January to push for the play offs, If it doesnt happen which wont be a shock to anyone, then he already has a team for next season that is settled and know how each other plays.
Anyone remember our first season back at Withdean? I could be wrong but didnt we end the season by not losing our last 14 games or something? More or less the same team went up as Champions the following season

Although I would personally think it was impossible for us to get there this season, wasn't there a season a few years ago when Palace were in the relegation zone at Christmas but ended up in the play offs anyway ? I'd look it up but can't bring myself to type their name into Google !

You are right. And I think they won the play off final as well with Neil Shipperly scoring the winner.

I'm sure they beat West Ham. And I think it was either the day before or day after we beat Brizzle City at the Millenium.

Play-offs are too optimistic for this season, but we will surely need to finish in the top half of the table in order to make outselves look attractive and ambitious enough to potential signings in the summer? We will need to ensure that we look like a team that are going to be serious promotion contenders for 2010-11, otherwise, why will quality players want to sign for us?

Main priority is definitely avoiding the bottom 4. It will take an almost miraculous few months to see us anywhere other than the bottom half

Imagine he will start building a team now ready to make a real push next season as in what Adams Mk 1 did

Hang on.

Our team has gelled now.We are on a two match unbeaten run.A playoff place is a bang on certainty. That and the FA cup win at Wembley should make this a memorable season.

Right now, I'd settle for 15th place.

I think that's about nail on the head. Show that we have the potential to build on for next season in order to attract the players we will need for promotion 2010/11.

Now we are out of the relegation zone, the main priority should be not to fall back into it for the rest of the season. So long as Gus can achieve that, I'll be happy. Anything else is a bonus.

Last playoff spot (6th) in this division for the last 10 seasons starting 08/09 and working back: 76, 76, 75, 71, 71, 73, 81, 78, 75, 82. The average of these is 75.8

So, to get that we need an additional 52 points.

This season so far we've averaged exactly 1 point per game.

To get the additional 52 points we need to average 2.3 points per game.

Sorry guys, I'd love to be more optimistic, and it's not a mathematical impossibility, but imho NOT A HOPE IN HELL!

Play offs is too much to ask for.
Finishing in the top half will be a major achievement after the last couple of months.
Stay up this year and push for the play offs next.

the tables i fairly congested so i decent run will place us comfortably in the top half, play offs maybe pushing it
