The Large One
Who's Next?
Thanks for correcting my reference to Foray585. I quickly typed that post off the top of my head from faded recollection.
I don't claim to be an expert in such things but it's possible they re-used the company registration (probably saved some cost somewhere). Possibly because one person involved back then is still involved today.
Foray 585 was an off-the-shelf company set up by Bill Archer. The act of taking over that company was the act of taking over Brighton & Hove Albion.
By the time the then Department for Trade & Industry’s CEDR resolved the Knight/Archer talks, it was agreed Knight would own 49.5% of the company, Archer 49.5% and Martin Perry (then of McAlpine) 1%. Since then, of course, others have come in and taken shares in return for ‘investment’, and Bill Archer was effectively bought out for £700,000.
One of the first things that happened very quickly once Bill Archer finally signed the company transfer (I say ‘finally’ - he agreed the deal in April, but didn’t sign until September) was that David Bellotti was fired, and was offered no help in clearing his office. Someone once told me he asked for a couple of days to clear his stuff out, and Knight refused, though that could be just an apocryphal tale.
