If Harriet wants equality she should be asking Le Tour to allow women to compete in the competition against the men.

Maintaining gender apartheid in sport prevents the women from competing fairly against the men...............that's what the new wave of equality laws are demanding in board rooms, general industry, the military and the arts so that is what she should be agitating for in sport.

Why deny our women the opportunity to compete for the ultimate title?

Combined events does this include rugby, football, boxing etc be great fun to watch.

Now 79,544 signatures.

Lets just be done with it and have full equality.

No Women or Men teams in any sport.

We can have proper representation of the sexes.

No more need for for gender Wimbledon,or Golf,or cycling,or tennis for example.

and as for ladies only football i agree with Harriet Harperson it is clearly sexist.

I have supported female only football in the past but realize now i am sexist and must submit myself to diversity reeducation.

where do i sign in?

Victoria Grant v Jonah Lomu an interesting match-up 65kg v 120kg equality at its finest. Both wingers in rugby by the way. There may be a reason why there are men and women sports teams. Just a thought.

It's the way forward, the US military recently relaxed restrictions on women in front line and special forces.........if they can shit in a bag and stick the bayonet in the guts of an enemy, I can't see why they can't play football with the boys too?

I expect she just wants a women's race, not on par with the men. One of the gents who manages TDF said on R5 that a women's race with realistic stages is inevitable.

Not quite sure the reason for the anti HH vitriol. Could it possibly be because she's the anathema of the working class tory: a middle class (female) socialist. perchance? ;-)

I think you are to something, she is a Tory, willing to serve her own on the back of the working class.............

Labour talk a good story when it comes to equality, but she and Jack will ensure Joe joins Euan and other connected offspring on the benches of power...........like a pseudo aristocracy............wankers the lot of them.

I used to quite fancy her (with the sound turned off) when I was younger, always felt she could do a job.

it's more than a little odd that the biggest annual sporting event in the world only has women on the podium to look pretty.
Indeed.
What other annual sporting event gets 12 million spectators?
I'm talking about 12 million people turning up to watch in person.
12 million people don't turn up to watch it, they step outside their house as it goes past. And it's free for them to do that.

Wow, this thread has outed some chauvinists.

I really don't understand what possible reason you could have to be against this, as long as it doesn't lose money for the men's tour.

Isn't she exactly what we claim to want from politicians? She says what she thinks and fights for issues that are important to her. Most other politicians are enjoying their summer holidays at the moment rather than lobbying on gender equality issues.

You sound like a bigot yourself, why do you want to deny women the opportunity to compete on equal terms with men? As i mentioned previously US Govt now allow women to fight on the frontline, in special forces etc. (and rightly so) so why should we maintain segregation in some sports. Duality is not equality.

As for Harman, she is exactly what we get from politicians these days, a millionaire, a privileged upbringing, made her career thanks to access to influential people in the establishment via family connections, married to a millionaire trade union leader who is now an MP thanks to Harriet and a child who they are preparing for a role in politics.

Once she passes on her wealth to the poor, directs her son to make a living outside politics then I will listen to her on equality. Till then she is just another Tory pig wearing a red rosette.

I genuinely thought you were joking originally and wasn't aiming at you, it's an interesting stance. Fair play sir.

As for HH, perhaps this is an illustration of people's expectations altering. As someone who wasn't born when we last had a socialist government, I view her as one of the best of a bad bunch.

No, I was being deadly serious, if equality means that we will no longer have (say) racial segregation, then why should we encourage it in sport with gender. HH wouldn't support a (say) Turner prize for men or women, and rightly so.

Trouble is the equality cultists don't think it through, if we must have (say) mixed company boards of men and women, why should that philosophy not be extended to (say) prisons. HH would not agree with men only golf clubs, why should she then be comfortable with men only prisons?

HH is the daughter of a Harley St Doctor who went to a private school and has benefitted from her family connections to get where she is..........if she had any sense of equality she wouldn't have worked to get hubbie Jack Dromney an MP seat which was meant to be a women only list, she would also tell their son Joe to make a career before entering politics. If she was a Tory you would probably despise her, the irony is........she is a Tory.

For professional sport there should be no segregation between men and women, there should be one event that both sexes can enter. It would eliminate all prize money arguments for a start. You don't find it in any other career*, my company doesn't appoint a male CEO and a female CEO.

*Ok, I'm sure there are a couple...
