I heard that Elder has gone to Brentford whilst watching the reserves this evening.

If Dick Knights gets 250k for him, then he's a f***ing genius. Virgo wasn't worth the 1.5mi Celtic paid for him, Harding wasn't worth shit, and Hammond out of contract in the summer is worth slightly more than Harding.

250k Hammond if he were under contract would be a good deal, but if he gets that now, I'd be in awe of the man. The only thing I would question, is why turn down £200,000? I'd have bitten their hands off.

Elder going won't be any loss. Hopefully a couple more will follow tomorrow, including someone to take over from that twat Kuipers, although I'd imgine Flinders will follow in Feb on loan, if we are unable to get our permenant target (if its not him)

:thumbsup::clap:

He was in two places at once? That's quite a feat for somebody who can't score from 1 yard.

I apologise for the missing comma. :D

He is out of contract in the summer and can leave for nothing, I am assuming the club have gone to all reasonable lengths to keep him but he has declined to sign a contract extension, therefore offloading him in the transfer window makes business sense. It is sad that he is leaving but better that we receive some sort of fee, rather than see him go for nothing in the summer, plus his sale will help offset our recent additions.

In a nutshell.

HA! anyone who thinks that hammond is on a par with harding needs a reality check. hammond is going to fight for a place in a side that will be league one next year. harding is a first choice left back for a side that, sort out their away form, are premiership bound.....

unfortunatatelty, harding hard the nerve to walk out on us for leeds (come on, every football fan knows brighton over leeds, right? especially in europe, that champions league semi final was bloody lucky). hammond is making a sideways step - which suggests there is more to it than meets the eye

yep................it's not about ambition as his agent says but more likely about the money. If he goes there, he gets a signing on fee. If plays well but they still get relegated, then a more solid mid table championship team may sign him in the summer. More signing on fee, more wages and so on and so on.......

Must have known they'd increase it, or wanted to show Hammond we do want him.

I don't understand this. I really want Hammond to stay! What's the point in moving to Colchester? He's going to be back here next year, probably. So, maybe he thinks that by playing for Colchester when they go down a bigger club will move for him. But where is he going to look better? A League 1 side who, with his help, will be pushing for promotion/play offs or a dwindling Colchester side. Or, perhaps, he thinks 'okay, if Colchester get relegated they'll be up the next year'. But that would mean after this half season in championship he hs to wait another season. Does he not rate our chances?

Or is it purely about money.

Please stay.

Or is it purely about money.

This is the mans job. If he is offered more money to play elsewhere (and at the same time is made to feel more wanted etc etc) and is perhaps offered a more enticing contract in terms of longevity, bonuses etc then he's got to consider it. Throw in a money-grabbing, commission earning agent and you get the player merry-go-round that is the January Transfer Window.

"Loyalty to the club" is a conceit that fans can afford because they have their own jobs elsewhere.

I want him to stay - I think we need him in midfield, but I can see why he would go and I am not as constantly surprised by apparent "lack of layalty" as some NSC contributors.

If Hammond goes to Colchester how can he possibly say that he's going to a club with ambition? They will be League 1 with us next year (unless we put together a miracle promotion push) and what will he have actually achieved other than boosting his bank balance. Ah....

OR unless we ourselves get relegated.

The onus was on the club, and DK in particular to have offered Dean a contract in the summer that he couldn't refuse. DK's failure to do that is the reason why Hammond is now going. You can't blame the player for wanting to play in the Championship and earn some decent money. Its a short career and he has to look after himself. We've messed up where he is concerned and I think it is a great shame.

I entirely agree wth he second part of your post but let's all remember that when you break the bank for one player in contract terms you break it for them all..........and that we could not afford :ascarf:

Exactly.

But this just goes to show those that rate Hammond so highly that only Colchester have shown any interest in him, hardly been knocked down by a rush of clubs have we? :thumbsup:

If fanancial security is what Hammond was looking for from the deal then it could have been Wrexham who made that offer, it doesn't really matter which club gave it to him.

With Hammond it may be financial security= top priority
Ambition= second

Only Hammond knows what is important to him.

The agent wants to keep his players close together. Hammond to Col, Revell at Southend, clearly worried about the increase in his own petrol costs now he's moved them away from being at the same club. He'll be crying into his 12% of their new contracts the twat.

Harding isn't first choice at Ipswich any more. He's to error prone for them now. he plays only when the new LB they have is injured or suspended.

The difference for me is that Harding looked a class act but was prone to f*** ups - the likes of which could be ironed out wirth experience.

On the other hand, Hammond is a player who has never cut it at championship level and was way out of his depth 2 years ago. Not a bad 3rd division player though.
