Argus:

Grant Hall is stalling on signing a new three year deal amid continuing interest from Spurs.

Poyet: ' He is a player we really value and are looking forward to having in the club. Of course, he has finished his contract so we've got five weeks to try and make this happen.

I'm not in charge of those talks, that is down to David Burke and the club. We decided to extend his contract and we are looking forward to having him here for many years. I hope it is going to be all right.'

I expect the fact that we let him go to Lewes and brought him back might count against us for compo? Or in fact make us illegible?

I'd be pretty sure the fact we released him as a youth player, and re-signed him as a pro will work against us for compo.

Be a shame to lose him, as I think he has a lot of potential, but you never know what is going on behind the scenes, what he has been told by us. I'd imagine there is little future at Spurs in the near future, apart from potentially more money and moving to London!

Makes you wonder why Poyet didn't want to offer him a new contract before this one ran out if he values him so highly

The previous actions of the club regarding Hall's return will have no bearing on any agreed fee.

This isnt a youth player but a full professional that has been offered new terms and as I understand it would need an agreed fee between any interested parties.

Of course if he decides not to sign any contract and ends up in dispute with the club it may go to appeal and all sort of things might be brought to the table from both parties to increase or decrease any fee.

How do we know when he was offered the contract?

Spurs have been sniffing around for atleast 6 months, there is no indication Hall would have signed a contract had he been offered one in January anyway.

If he goes he'll have a great future down amongst the dead men in Spurs's second reserve team before being sold in two years time to Swindon Town.

Or play him.

because he's 4th choice centre back........doesn't mean gus doesn't see him having a future just because he hasn't given him game time this season....hence 3 year contract

also, as we could well be without el-abd and *possibly* dunk for periods of this season, he could see a bit more action

i've just checked his wiki.....a) was he playing as a centre back at lewes, and b) if he was, how on earth did he manage to score 12 goals in 10 games?! :-o

Good luck to him, but I am still a wee bit surprised.

For all his potential it doesnt seem to be necessarily recognised by our club, generally playing in the DS team with only a limited involvement with the first team squad.

It is quite unusual for a Premiership club to then contradict that position, where they might see him as progressing quicker at their club.

Hall is 20 years old now and I suspect Spurs would be sniffing around the many 20 year old's that might be regularly performing within the Championship/League 1 first teams.

This isnt a comment on Hall, rather more the process of interest.

Has the speculation surrounding a big money move for Dunk disappeared? It may well be that if the club are thinking Dunk might be the one to go then they can position that to Hall as getting his opportunity for a "regular" slot competing with Greer and AEA

Exactly. Yet again I suspect we've messed up; and if Hall goes to Spurs we have only ourselves to blame. If this is how we handle one of our better players, I shudder to think how others are treated. It's odd that a Premiership club seem to value Hall more than we do?

Eh? No need to agree a fee at all unless things have drastically changed since the Bosman ruiling. He can walk out of the club a free agent at the end of his contract and sign for Spurs for nowt. I don't think we would be due any compo given we signed him from Lewes (regardless of his previous history with us).

He will end up in the same position at Spurs. He might be lucky to make the subs bench, but will probably get offered three times as much in wages. Money talks.

Just a shame we didn't play him more often. Very good player.

I think everything is 'on hold' regarding any possible transfers for Dunk

I think that's a bit harsh. Who have we messed up with in the past? As others have said above, we don't know when the club offered Hall a new contract or how long Spurs have been interested in

Young players chased by Prem clubs need only to look at John Bostock to highlight the risks of moving up too quickly and then setting your career back many years. There wasn't really room for him to play much last year was there?

So if he dropped Greer of dunk, to play hall, you would be happy? I certainly wouldn't if I'm honest, due to the fact that hall hasn't played that much for the first team and anything could happen, I would liked to have seen him play in cup games maybe, but you never know what goes on behind closed doors, especially when we have 3 established CB in the team, if I recall dunk only got in due to injuries to Elphick ad AEA, so he needs to be patient

As Hall is still under 24 and we've offered him a new deal we will be entitled to compensation if he moves to Spurs. If the two clubs cannot agree a fee and it goes to tribunial then the fact we released him at 16, and re-signed him a year or so later, may count against us and see the fee set lower than it would have been had he not been released.
