Reading the report it seems that Mrs Parlour contributed a lot to the marriage and helped her husband to combat (or narrowly avoid) alcoholism. In doing this she must have improved Ray's earnings potential, and this was argued in court. Sure, she's getting a lot in terms of cash value, but he's earning an awful lot more. Perhaps this was money that he wouldn't have had if he'd been out drinking all day after training and been marked down as unreliable. I'm sure that the judge made a decision after studying these facts.

Even if she ( very debatable ) preventing him becoming an " alcoholic " does this entitle her to £ 440 000 per annum. I think not.

She has shafted him good and proper.

My advice to all men ever thinking of marrying - DON'T !. And do not even consider having any children or you are writing your own bankruptcy petition if/when things go wrong as the law is 95% in favour of married women without children and 100% in favour of married women with children.

Gareth it isn't.

My ex spent all his money on drink, left me with loads of debt, set up house with a floozy as Pasty calls it, (actually the barmaid from the pub he was always at) and I did nothing wrong.
We were married for 21 years and I got half the proceeds of the house. Nothing for myself because I was working.

The only good thing that happened in that dreadful time was that he admitted his adultery and so had to pay the full cost of the divorce (which he insisted on having because he wanted to marry this 'wonderful' woman he had met)

He has since been made bankrupt, and is living in a one bedroomed rented flat so I suppose justice has been done anyway, but it wasn't down to any legal advice.

Perhaps I had the wrong solicitor.

I think you got a raw deal ( in terms of the law favouring women ). If I split up I think I think I would end up with a shirt, maybe 2 if I had a good lawyer on my side and £ 50 a week to live on and a rented studio bedsit above a nightclub somewhere in Newhaven or the like.

'In sickness and in health', she should f***ing help him through it that was part of her wedding vows, its not conditional to getting a bigger pay out if you divore. And yes shes improved his earning potential but you learn off people all the time in the workplace who increase your earning potential but it doesnt mean they should get commission on your earnings for the rest of your life. This is an absolute disgrace IMHO

The court obviously thought that, as a result of her efforts, he was in a position to earn over £1M pa - which he may not have been able to do if she did nothing. I don't think she's 'shafted' him at all - she didn't make the decision, the courts did. They had the power to throw the case out but they obviously thought there were merits to it.

Perhaps we'll see more pre-nuptual agreements from now on as people make their intentions clear at the outset. They'd be better-off just installing a hooker and paying by the hour. At least they'd be owning-up to themselves about what they really wanted.

It is probably true that without her, Parlour wouldn't have earned as much. However, without him, she would still be an optician's assistant.

She is just greedy. Plain as.

I am sure she lived in the lap of luxury all the time she was with Parlour as well with good clothes, food , home comforts and a nice detached house and gardens. It must have been hell for her !. The only " talent " she had was a womb.

If I was Parlour, I'd resign and go on the dole to stitch up the bitch. 33% of £ 60 per week isn't so clever now is it !.

Why are men so aggressive to women?

We have been having a discussion about divorce and maintenance after marriage and women have been called bitches, cows, not trustworthy etc.

Not once has an insult been levelled at a man.

Is he going to get a third of her wages as well?

If I was him I would negotiate a new contract with a hefty signing on fee and next to nothing wages.

Can't really blame her for trying but I think it is wrong.

I'm sure she'll get a hefty cut of ALL earnings, including signing on fees, not just the cash in his weekly pay packet.

Slaaaaaaaaaag.
