Not sure what you mean that you don't agree. Are you saying that you don't agree that the marriage vows should apply equally to men and women? Why the hell not?
As for whether women get the worst of divorces, that's not really arguable. As I said in my original posts, there have been countless studies and surveys over the years that point that out.
Here's just one that was reported by the BBC. "It makes financial sense for men to divorce or leave their partners, a study has found.
Men who stay married invariably end up poorer than those who leave their live-in partners, according to social researcher Cecile Bourreau-Dubois.
Mrs Dubois found that the effect of divorce on a man's bank balance even outweighed the financial benefits of either partner getting a better job.
However, the reverse was true for women. .., Dubois based her findings on interviews with more than 75,000 adults in 11 different EU countries.
Her report is published by the Institute for Economic and Social Research."
Or there's the research by Surrey University's Centre for Research on Ageing and Gender that was published earlier this year. That showed how divorce women suffered when it came to pensions.
Or there's the study by the Institute of Social and Economic Research that found that a woman's income declined by an average of 18% after a marital split, while a man's income actually rose by 2%.
I could post some more but I think you get the point. I've not seen a single reputable study that claims that women get the better deal from divorces.
So, I don't really understand some of the comments made about women on this thread, I guess that some of you must really hate women.
Women have had a bum deal over the years and this inequality is finally being addressed. As El Pres pointed out, the Parlour judgment doesn't promise a third of an income in perpetuity and it seems to have been a sensible compromise.
