Joking aside though, North Idaho does look absolutely lovely.

Having spent a weekend in Coeur d'Alene, I can confirm that your initial impression is correct (although being neither a Landscape Artist nor having a degree in ecology, I'm sure my opinion won't wash with @hybrid_x). Also it is not too far from Glacier National Park, which has incredible pristine, natural wilderness.
