Roeder should have gone after relegation. This fiasco was always going to happen as soon as they confirmed he would continue after his rehab.
I genuinely feel sorry for the Hammers fans as they've been shafted by the Board, the players have pissed off and the manager was never up to the job.
I can't see that there are any obvious candidates to take over, and it is ironic to see Redknapp and Portsmouth making such a bright start. Personally, I think Brooking should have the guts to take the job on until next summer.
On paper he is the perfect man for the job to take them straight back to the Premiership in what is an extremely weak Div 1. He doesn't have much to lose, although I wouldn't be surprised if Terry Venables applied for the job as this "club in turmoil / able to blame the board" scenario is right up his street, a la Middlesbrough, Leeds, Palace etc...
