Why on earth would he go back as an also-ran in the league and reduce his reputation. As it is he went out as a champion with an over-achieving team. He must be loving it.

This.

Going from a team who won the league by 11 points to one that has missed out on the top four altogether. Quite an achievement actually, given the recent gulf between the top four and the rest.

Because l truly think he loves the club, and will want to put things right. He will be hurting seeing them miss out on a Champions League place for next season.

The guy is over 70 and he'd be commiting himself for at least 3 years (the very least). They have to move on from him sometime, they have the chance to do it now, not just postpone it for a couple of years. I'd say there is next to zero chance of it happenning. They need to appoint an A lister now, invest in the summer and they could be back up there in a couple of years. They do have the problem that City, Chelsea, Arsenal and now Liverpool are all getting stonger, so if they don't stop the rot now, whilst they still have a high reputation, they'll fall even further behind.

Absolutely no chance, the reason they sacked Moyes was because they didn't trust him to buy well in the summer, they wouldn't then pass the reigns over to someone with absolutely no management experience.

Unless he is under the guidance of a very experienced man as Director of Football like Sir Alex

I do agree that Giggs in a head coach role being overlooked by a decent DOF would work well for them, but not if that person is Fergie. They need to move on from Fergie.

If you're bet is reliant on a qualifying scenario (giggs winning his 4 games) then why don't you just bet on "United to win remaining 4 games" instead?

What's the odds of that?

quite short given the opposition, though might make a nice accumulator with say Liverpool winning all theirs.

Still wouldnt put a penny on if Giggs was 1025~1 ........ just not going to happen. Friend who writes a football blog tells me it was Giggs who leaked to the press before Moyes was officially fired - not what you want from a potential manager if true ???

Van Gaal has to be favourite. Cant see them going for anyone less experienced or tempting someone from a club qualified for the Champions League. Will struggle to get rid of some of the dross: struggle to sign the players they need: and struggle to consolidate back into the top four.
Might be a tricky few years ahead.

I reckom that an accumalator on Man Utd winning all four matches, which has a better chance, will pay more than 25-1, and he wont need to get the appointment that the OP suggests.
Home to Norwich, first game after Moyes went, so players have something to prove.
Home to Hull, mind on the FA Cup
Away to Saints, they are already on the beach.
Home to Sunderland, abit of revenge wanted after League cup debacle, althouth Gus's boys will be desperate.

Michael Laudrup leaving Swansea in February was strange because they were still in the FA Cup, Europa League and mid-table in the Premier League. He's also without a club at the moment, however going for another inexperienced manager is not what Manchester United need. If Fergie had retired NOW Laudrup's odds of 40/1 would be a lot shorter. And the Dane has won a trophy - unlike David Moyes.

Louis Van Gaal is nailed on for the permanent job.

What this thread fails to note is that the ManUre targets might just not want the job......hence if Giggs wins all 4 games with flair, his odds will be slashed.

they have massive debts, no european football next year, and a poor squad that needs an overhaul.....hardly enticing for europes elite managers.

This is a scenario that often happens but I can't see it panning out here. Man Utd are still one of the biggest clubs in the world plus any new manager wouldn't have to do much to improve on the previous incumbent's effort. This being the end of the season rather than the middle makes it less likely too.

Manure to finish above spurs is 2/1 (6 points behind with a game in hand and much better GD). Good bet.

A mate always backs caretaker manager to get the job they are caretaking full time

He's backed a string of big priced winners down the years - Stuart Gray and Tim Sherwood both over 10/1 this year for example.

Even he isn't betting on Giggs.

"no chance" were his words when I asked for an opinion/
