Seriously was in the local paper at the time and was fairly big news.
No, he's right inasmuch as over the years public toilets have often been closed down due to 'misuse by the public'. Some of that is vandalism and some cottaging.
Bit unfair blaming it ALL on George Michael though!

You know, there's an interesting thing about such lavatorial activities, while we're on the subject. When George Michael got busted that time for "lewd behaviour" in LA, he did mention- on Parky, perhaps??- that he'd been at it for years. I remember wondering how the hell he'd taken that risk for so long, thinking that surely SOMEONE would have recognised him and grassed him up, either to the police or the press.
I mentioned this to a gay friend of mine, and he reckons that an extraordinarily high percentage of the men who engage in public place sexual activity- toilets, Duke's Mound, Hampstead Heath etc, identify themselves as straight (many are married), but are looking for easy sex and getting off on the danger element. Which explains very logically how Michael gets away with it so often, because your average married "straight" man is hardly going to go running to the News of the World to say he's just accidentally been blown by that bloke who used to be in Wham.

He'll only serve half the sentence anyway, and it's not like they'll send him somewhere like Wakefield or Strangeways.
Maybe a week in some Cat B, mostly remand style place, and then a few weeks in a Ford, key's-under-the-mat-help-yourself-to-drugs establishment.
