To be honest...I can't think of anyone from any of the other home nations that would get into a GB team....A couple have mentioned Aaron Ramsey, but he's never played Premiership let alone international football.

Besides, if we were to have an Olympics team, the squad would have to be Under 23's as the IOC limit the football to this.

Not sure thats true? Isnt it supposed to be that clubs HAVE to release players under-23 for the tournament*, although players aged over that can compete? ???

(* although it seems that Barca have just scuppered that rule by barring Messi from the Games?)

Separate national sides are ingrained in the football fans psyche, so there will always be lukewarm interest at best.

Secondly, I don't think players will be up for it. There will be pressure to pick non-English players and no doubt there will be suspicions that the side isn't being picked on merit.

And doesn't the fact that the four football associations can get together to pick a combined team to represent the UK at one tournament explode the arrangement that gives each home nation separate membership of FIFA and UEFA?

Wait for the argument to be shouted loud from the rooftops of FIFA Towers:- Why not do the same thing for the World Cup? And the European Championships?

Thats the biggest reason it should never happen. Sepp Blatter has made noises along the lines of "If GB fielded a one-off side for the Olympics it wouldn't affect the individual Nations FIFA status", but he is such a complete and utter tosser he would probably immediately go back on his word as soon as Team GB entered and that would be the end of England/Scotland/Wales/NI teams.

A nice convenient way for FIFA to dilute the "power" of GB having four representatives within FIFA.
