I think it just amuses me, the whole camp feel of the day is just highly amusing. I work with a gay guy who gets very excited about the whole thing.

My issue is why don't all straight people get to have a parade etc, cause it will be called homophobic. Its always one way these things.

Just re-read my post and realised that I was being accusatory. Not my intention at all-sorry.

*look before you post, Turnip*

That's Ok mate.

The problem with Message boards, is that they can easily be taken the wrong way.

I meant what I said about being OK with gays, but the "in yer face" may have sounded contradictory.

Anyway, I hope tomorrow goes well and without incident.

Cheers

Very interesting points of view!!! but Gay Pride is about having fun and being able to be who you really are without being ridiculed. The reason you feel it is in your face is most gay couples still feel they can,t openly show effection towards each other because of the reactions they get. It is just the brave few!!! It is crazy that this is still the case. Brighton although thought of being a great place can be very homophobic. A couple of my colleagues who I work with have been assaulted in the past and sadly this is not uncommon.

Because they're not celebrating being gay. They're celebrating not being persecuted anymore (so if you want to stop it, show them NSC). A straight parade would celebrate what exactly? We've not been persecuted.

One point: AIDS is pretty rife in Africa. Shall we use that to abuse them? No, that would be racist. It's OK to make that stereotype against gays though. Apparently. Why is that?

I found in personal experience, that establishments for gays were incredibly opressive to straight people . The 'Curtain Club' might welcome us, but if you were to turn down the advances of a 'prominent poof' they would refuse to serve you a drink at the bar, and make you uncomfortable. I guess it's just an overall human trait then, to be exclusionary whenever you can ?

About comparisons with race - do we see black people marching to celebrate freedom from categorization? That would then be an oxymoronic parade of exclusionary status celebrating their integration (!) How about women partying it up through the streets for emancipation ?

All the time gays feel the need to parade their sexual preference, they will never actually be 'free' from prejudices.
How about a parade for people who like inflatables, or group sex, or sex with rubber accessories ?
YEAH BABY !

Not my bag really but had to take some house-guests who came down specially.

Bad:
Three quid for a can of Grolsch
£3.50 for a Smirnoff Ice
Drag Queens (always draggy - it's a tired old genre that should have passed into history with Danny LaRue)
Clashes with footie and racing

Good:
Top funfair rides
Excellent dance tents (special mention to the Popstarz tent for playing cheesey pop hitz wall-to-wall)
Nice And Safe Attitude
Loadsa Fit Wimmen
Glorious sunshine

So big thumbs up from this 'ere resident
