Our matches he has refereed:

26th April '08, Bristol Rovers 0 - 2 Brighton. Dean Wilkins last away game in charge, no bookings.

4th October '08 Brighton 3 - 3 Cheltenham. Adams in charge, Cheltenham had a player sent off, 3 bookings for us, 2 for them. 94th minute equaliser by them, Adams looking clueless all ready.

17th March '09 Walsall 3 - 0 Brighton. Another new manager for us. Slade this time, David Livermore gets skinned repeatedly to leave us three down after about four minutes, or so it seemed to me. Two yellow cards to us, none for them.

5th September '09 Brighton 1 - 0 Wycombe. Still Slade, just. Forster with the only goal. Three bookings for us, none for them.

1st December '09 Brighton 0 - 2 Charlton. Gus is in charge now. Three bookings for us, four for them. Gus really started to weave his magic from this game onwards as I remember it.

28th September '10 Brighton 1 - 0 Brentford. One yellow for us, two for them Lua Lua with a screamer to win it.

12th February '11 Brighton 4 - 1 Hartlepool. One yellow each.

So played 7, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 2. Pretty decent record, he has never sent any of our players off and from those games I cannot remember anything particularly contoversial that he has done.

2 shit refs in a week what have done wrong?

he's the one that looks about 12 right?

I think there are two really young ones, Gavin Ward is the fair haired one. It is the other one who has been really bad for us, the one with dark hair.

Steve Cook, I think is the terrible one everyone is thinking of, certainly in games for us. He no longer referees in the league as he was so bad, if you search 'Steve Cook referee' you get loads of news reports of angry football clubs. He refereed the game against Stockport when Hawkins ran on too early, ran back to the touchline, was waved on, ran in to the box, pulled their striker back and then got sent off, all within one minute. He also ref'd the Crawley game at the start of last season when four players got sent off

Was Ward the one who didn't give that Palace 'goal' when Colin Wanker was in charge?

F****ng Hell Pantani that is some serious seagulls knowledge/geekism, and you don't even sound smug with it :)

Don't, don't, oh god I'm shuddering, please don't bring that up again, I had almost erased it from my memory. I so don't want to ever see anything like that again as long as I live - this was the worst Brighton game I have ever been too and boy there are some contenders.

Gavin Ward is the very short fair haired ref, probably the least imposing of all referee's in the entire football league.

IIRC, he never makes many huge mistakes, it's more the culmination of missing DOZENS and i mean dozens, of fouls which are clear free kicks, and then being overly keen to blow his whistle at the most ridiculous and perculiar times. It's this that really p*sses me of when he referee's us.

Steve Cook is another young looking referee, again who referee's the game with absolutely NO common sense.

Ah well, i'm hoping that given we seem to be one of the least physical teams in our league, we may well be getting some petty free kicks given our way tomorrow.

Just the power of the internet I'm afraid. I cannot even remember what day it is most of the time.

Cook is the worst ref ever though, Ward is not great, but seriously google Steve Cook referee it is astounding how bad he is, not just for us.

When you put it like that - he doesn't seem too bad. Its a shame he's actually a prick. Charlton for instance, the fourth minute DIABOLICAL where Adam ElAbd was punched and no red was shown, he has a way of just being a prick without cards. Misses clear handballs, goes from being uber anti-home to being the most nazi anti-away team in seconds. loves teh match to be about him.

I asked my mate about Ward, as he does ref reports and know all the refs well. He said that we should be pleased with Ward, although he is card happy and a likes to be the centre of attention, he generally favours the home team.

Steve Cook did the Orient game where he fell over, got hit by the ball , missed a penalty for us and a red card, gave a penalty to Orient only to be told by the Assistant that it was a backpass.

If Gavin is reading this I think you're the best ref in the Championship. If you're not reading it then . . . . (fill in the blanks)!

the day I flew in from Amsterdam, landed late, haired it up the motorway in the rain, and got there just as the third goal went in.................oh yeah. I'd forgotten that one

I'm intrigued as to what exactly some of you expect from a referee, as every week we seem to get a "oh, this bloke is shit" thread. By the very nature of their jobs, ie mediating between two teams with directly opposing objectives, they are going to make plenty of decisions you don't agree with. I don't think that makes someone unequivocally shit. They make mistakes in games, of course they do, and some are particularly memorable, but nobody's branding a player as completely useless for the whole of his career because he misplaces a couple of passes every game, or hits the bar instead of the back of the net. So why does an official receive that treatment?

I totally accept they get things wrong, but that's because we have humans doing the job, and not some computer generated virtual reality specialist with instant replays to hand. These things always balance out in the end, and the only reason some of you appear to think Gavin Ward is good is because any mistakes he's made have presumably been in our favour during the games he's officiated in. Either that or we've won the game and therefore not noticed.
