I was under the impression that the legends are interchangable... therefore he may appear later in the season.

Obviously, I'll get hugely flamed for this but .... is this not an example of how lightly the term "legend" gets bandied around these days?

Legend - naah, that's going too far.

I agree that there can be guys whose star was a short-lived shooting variety, maybe achieved less overall for teh club than Harty, but along the way the goal(s) they scored were absolutely crucial, maybe a single MASSIVE goal is down to them and therefore Reinelt and Knight have a case purely on Herefore and Cardiff alone, but Hart doesn't have one of "those goals" forever cast in my mind. Sorry, but the first goal at Amex in the Sussex Senior Cup isn't that goal for me. His status is therefore based on longevity and effort, which isn't legend status for me.

Great guy, tremendous servant, love the man deeply, but a legend? Not up there with Peter Ward et al for me.

Does anyone have the list of LEGENDS so we could rank them in order of divinity.

Gary played about 400 games and was ever present in our dark days.

Mr Horton only played 200+ and scored less goals.

My mum even asked me on Saturday why he is so loved by fans, I just blubbed....

Come on OGH just is...

Done. I would of liked the additional plea of removing Leon Knight from the said wall.

It's all about opinions, of course, as to who should or shouldn't be in that gallery. Ask 50 people for their all-time top 10 / top 25 Albion players, and I reckon no two people would agree on the entire list.

I think the main point of this petition is that Gary Hart is more deserving of a place than Leon Knight. If Knight was not there, I'd suggest this petition wouldn't exist.

However, he is. So he does.

Personally, and I FULLY expect to be flamed for this, I don't think Reinelt deserves his place there - one moment doesn't necessarily define a status.

I know where you're coming from, but you could easily say the same thing about Peter O'Sullevan who I think is a 'legend' for his length of service (like Hart).

I said on the other thread that there are far too many 'legends' from the recent era (Paul Rodgers for crying out loud), and not nearly enough from 'yesteryear'. I'd have included Willie Irvine, Adrian Thorne, Ian Mellor, Gordon Smith and, Mike Robinson to name but five. And I must have missed Charles Webb and Tommy Cook. And whatever your views on Knight there is no way he is a Brighton legend (Glenn Murray has more of a case for inclusion). Even his supporters can only point to that one promotion season, capped by a penalty in the 3rd place play-off game. At least Reinelt's goal led indirectly to where we are now - and I can see why people think he shouldn't be included.

If there is a single defining moment for 'legend' in the 13 years that OGH played for us, then it was the Bristol Rovers game under Slade when we did the 'Great Escape' If we hadn't stayed up, then we wouldn't have got Poyet.

And even THAT wasn't a goal he scored! Yes, he played great in that spell of games, none moreso that the game at Brizzie Rovers, but Knight did score the goal that got us promoted (personally, that's not enough for me for Knight either). He didn't supply the cross, he actually tucked the ball in the onion bag for the goal that promoted us. Goals create moments and memories that last forever, and in Reinelts case the goal capped such a unique moment, and avoided such a unique consequence for teh club, that the one goal is enough on it's own.
