Interesting.
I dunno where Woollards Field is, but if its anywhere near the Village of the Damned then no doubt they'll be dusting off their pitchforks again and protesting till they're blue in the mulletchops.

"We don't want archives stored at Falmer. What about the NOISE pollution from historians leafing through files at all hours of the day and night ? What about the LIGHT pollution from their candles ? Not to mention the FIRE hazard".

etc.

The field opposite the stadium where all the chalk went would be my choice for any developement. No idea who owns this land but I'm sure its a no goer for now

It's not in the AONB, the South Downs AONB was revoked with the designation of the South Downs National Park from which the stadium land was excluded. No idea where this building is located but would imagine it's outside the SDNP

Don't forget the increase in book/bat collisions

I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams could claim the now defunct AONB, or even the current national park, stretches as far as Falmer School.

sorry boys, I don't know the area that well. I was wondering if the permission for the stadium had opened up areas around the ground for planning applications.

Sorry ... will go back to buffing my nails

As a matter of interest, the 'small field' next to the stadium (I believe owned by The Chuch?) what, if anthing is happening there?

Is there any possibility of this ever coming into the Club's ownership? (Perhaps for additional parking for say 400 additional 1901 Club members?:fishing:)

Seriously, just WHAT can anyone (other than the Club) hope to use it for?

That's in the National Park; nothing will ever be built there.

An expansion of the grave yard when the locals die from seeing the 'orrible football thugs pissing in their gardens and biting the heads off the duck population of the village pond ???

I thought they were putting a swimming pool there for 1901 members.

Even more controversial would be a new rail scheme to relieve pressure on the Brighton main line through Gatwick and Haywards Heath, known as BML2, which is now being actively toted by Brian Hart who had previously led the campaign to reopen the Uckfield-Lewes rail link, with backing from Norman Baker.

BML2's ambitious plan is to create a completely separate route up to London, using the Uckfield-Lewes link, but also avoiding Lewes by a new tunnel through the chalk escarpment north-east of Lewes near Hamsey, although a chord would be put in to link Lewes trains, and on to Eastbourne and Seaford.

The tunnel would emerge - guess where - FALMER. Not sure which side of the station though, I suspect east. The trains from Uckfield would follow the present route as far as South Croydon where the old closed Woodside-Sanderstead route - now incorporating part of Tramlink - would be revived, even though part of it has been built on.

The words "pie" and "sky" do come to my mind sadly on this.
