People will buy whatever they think is trendy, and whatever they think will get them noticed. 4x4s fit the bill at the moment.

Excellent! That makes me trendy for the first time in my life. Although the reason I just bought a 4x4 was because I'm scared of winter weather around here, and maybe that's not so cool (although the weather certainly is).

Thus excluding anyone with an environment friendly car with a small tank ( Ka and Mini to name but two ) that can't actually fit £25 in.

Also discriminates against people who can't necessarily afford £25 of fuel at that time but need petrol.

Also that means a few people get the fuel rather than everyone getting a little - how fair !!!!!

OK - get those with environmentally friendly cars, that for pedantics sake can't fit £25 worth of fuel in the car, to make a payment of £25 - but receive the balance in ozone-friendly car freshener or free-trade coffee beans.

You know what he meant - a minimum payment would deter those that are putting £2.50 in their cars from wasting fuel and time. The petrol retailers were asking for this earlier on, before we have the shambles that we have now, and it may have stopped some of the panic buyers from putting fuel that they didn't need in their cars.

Scared of winter weather? Where are you?! A set of snow and ice chains would have been about £15K cheaper, but not as cool, obviously. And do you really know how to drive a 4x4 in poor conditions - have you been shown how to handle a specialist car in snow or ice? If the weather is bad enough to keep a "normal" car off the road, chances are that you wouldn't be able to get your urbanised 4x4 through either!

OK £25 was grabbed at random. Maybe £15 - £20 but has Hampshire mentioned, do you get the jist of my point?

*Pedantic alert my wife has a Ka and I'm pretty sure she squeezed in £30 the other day, such is the price of the stuff!

4X4s i can't stand them try parking in our car parks next to one when they have taken the middle spot between two pillars, have to admit though that i do my best "accidently" of course to clout them with my drivers door when getting out, put a good old mark on an X5 the other day, gave me a warm glow inside.

You can get £30 of fuel into a Smart Car. Tends to drown the driver, but that's a small price to pay.;)

Damaged a few by accident when they don't corner giving me and my trusty mountain bike enough space. I don't have plastic end-capped handlebars...... I always like to manoeuvre in front of them at the lights as well, I surprise myself at how slowly I can pull away when being beeped at! I wouldn't go as far as keying them or damaging them deliberately, at the end of the day some poor misguided fool has spent a large sum of money on them to make themselves feel bigger/better. By damaging their cars, you reinforce their superiority complex - "another jealous pleb damaging my flash car". Just look knowingly at them as they try and reverse/park/manoeuvre, and shake your head whilst they try and work out what the beeping sound is/what the small gearstick is for/why everyone is looking at them disdainfully.

I'd gladly pay £30 to see an estate agent or any other twat in a smart death trap drown in petrol.

does all this now mean that theres a new trend sweeping the nation for 'brimming'

your tank that is
