We have Oatway to do that job and give the team some much needed leadership.

Is that 34 year old Charlie Oatway? Nicolas is younger and a better player.

I would also have kept McPhee, bit of luck and some more confidence he would have done a decent job for us. And I would definately play Reid on the right of midfield.

Nicolas is not in the team to score goals...him being a defensive midfield player and all.

Simply, he would offer our back four a defensive shield which has not been there all season and allowed the opponents time and space to run at Butters.

He also collects the ball from the back four meaning they do not have to just lump it in the corners.

His short passes change the direction and angle of attacks meaning we are less predictable and he has a good nack of getting his foot in and disrupting the oppositions attacks.

Could he have done any worse then Carpenter this season?

I find it very interesting how different "sources" deliver different versions of this story.

Disscusions are a 2 way thing, and i will bet anything that one or two of the players will not accept League one wages, and i am more than positive that money, as in wages will be a major contributing factor to all the negotiations between the club and the players.

My old man and his mate who are spurs supporters went to see spurs reserves a couple of times earlier in the season and both said Lennon was pony. Sometimes its difficult to gage anything from these games.

I really think he could have been our Makelele, sitting in front of the back four while Hammond was freed up to attack (his more natural role.

agreed - Makelele doesn't exactly set the world alight with loads of goals etc but he is one of Chelsea's most important players. Nicolas was a similar sort of player

Also, does this not just leave us with CKR, Robinson, Hart and Gatting to score our goals this season?

Not many striking options there...

Big mac is crap but this shows he could do a job. He's probably on high wages which is another factor along with his bust up with MM but those guys on their own will not get enough goals to get us into the play offs next year, they need someone to play off.

It's amazing how some players, by not being good enough for the first team, then assume almost mythical status among certain fans (see also Kuipers).

Its also amazing how fans keep blind faith with players that are years past their sell by date and consistantly put in shit performances.

We don't know if this is even true yet. There's been no official word from the club. But IF it is I think this is ok. Carpenter will be fine next season in league 1 and Nicolas has never impressed me. McPhee was always going to go; McCammon is laughably bad and Turienzo was a mistake. Not sure about giving Dodd another contract though if that's what happened.

Best answer on this thread so far:clap:

Why would Nicolas want to stay with us? McGhee has hardly indicated that he's likely to be starting 30 games a season - even if we offered him 2 years i expect he'd still leave. Really not that surprising.

The chances of us signing a decent midfielder are minimal, so I don't think sticking what we've got is too bad an idea - but we won't be walking the league, that's for sure

I thought it would be a straight choice between Chippy and Nicolas, and although Chippy had a poor mid season he did have a couple of decent games towards the end and with our lack of experience in the squad it doesn't surprise me that he chose Chippy ahead of Nicolas.

Although i would have loved to have kept both MM obviously had to get rid of some players somewhere and bearing in mind Nicolas hasn't featured all season thats probably why he has gone.

Why are all out outfield players for next season between 7 and 12 and 45 and 80?
