Going back to Steve Palmer, I actually think he left the Albion to take up his studies...We might even have given him an ultimatum to either stay at the Albion or goto University.

When he was at Watford because of his student days the fans had a song about him smoking dope.

Aargh! How could I have forgotten Gary Bailey? Didn't he have a PhD in quantum physics or something? Must have been what enabled him to calculate the angle of Gordon Smith's shot to such heartbreaking effect.
