Flexible seat allocation at new stadium

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

At the moment, along with most other grounds I suspect, home supporters' season tickets are allocated a specific seat number, and you are expected to stick with that.

What about, for Falmer (hopefully), having season tickets which only restrict you to a stand, or perhaps a block? The choice of seat is then up to you on the day.

I think this has several advantages:
  • Friends who come to occasional matches would be able to sit with season-ticket holders
  • People who sing would be able to shift around throughout the season thus create better atmosphere
  • Can go and sit with friends without having to change seat number

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I don't like the idea of flexible seats. I'll fall off.

Good idea, could be a problem that the most loyal season ticket holders may get a crappy seat because they were still in the pub at five to three :dunce:

Really depends how full the ground is on the given day, if it is no where near a sell out then the sit where you like clause is a good idea I think.

I think a potential problem with unallocated seating is that capacity has to be reduced to less than the actual number of seats to safely allow people to find a seat should the stand/stadium be nearly full.

I tihnk when it boils down to it the club won't do that and will allocate a seat

I reckon the club should offer a seat swap service ie if you are a seaosn ticket holder and you want to take soem mates with you. For that game you can give up your season ticket seat and be allocated another with your mates.

I cannot see why one section of the ground cannot be first come first served on the seat allocation. It is just an alternative way to do it. What problems could arise? It would be no different to standing terraces of old.

Which is why no Crowd safety officer will allow it - apart from the fact that it is against the law - the Football Licensing Acts says that every seat must be numbered and must have an allocated and similarly numbered ticket against it:shootself

That's a good idea. I always used to take people to the Goldstone who'd never been before. You can't do that now so we aren't going to convert many people at the moment.

Storer: have you got a copy of the wording of the law?

I suppose all the seats could be numbered with the same number. Unless the wording says different numbers?

Then how come tickets for Luton were issued without a particular seat being allocated?

Not true. I've been to St Mary's here in Southampton and got an "unreserved seating" ticket, just restricted to a certain block.

One thing I hate about going to football these days is how you're forced into a particular seat and ordered to stay there. Flexible seating would be great.

While we're on this sort of topic I hope the seats can be designed with us six-footers in mind. In other words, take the legroom allowed on the super-dooper new Southern Railway trains and double it.

Not been to the Mad Stad but it looks nice from the M4.

I may also become very fat one day. I trust the seats will not discriminate against me then either.

Six footers should be made to stand at the back of the terrace so ordinary people can see the game.

Saints tried it for a couple of seasons in the corners of the stand, but it didn't work. It caused more problems that it's worth, and there ended up being arguments as to who sits where.

At present, BHAFC are apparaently flexible with seating, so you can return your season-ticket ticket with payment for the second ticket so you can have 2 seats together.

When I last went to the Old Den, the Southampton fans were fighting amongst themselves on the terraces in a noticeable way. Not just one incident either. At least two mass brawls and a smaller skirmish. One incident may have to do with Albion fans being in the Southampton bit, but not all of them.

I assume that you were referring to Southampton fans and not rugby hooligans. With the rugby crowd, any sort of awful behaviour and general disagreeable behaviour can be expected. Worse than living next door to a Crystal Palace supporter is living down the road from a rugby supporter.

err cos i'm talking out of my hat. it is usually a condition of the licence that the Local Authority imposes but is not compulsory
